On a lonely evening back at the start of 2017 I was feeling slightly despondent about life and focussing on the wrong direction. Looking backwards rather than to the future, I was sad about my recent break up. The loss not only of my relationship and my best friend but of what I believed to be my future.
Pouring over old photos and reading more-up-to-date Facebook posts is rarely a good idea...
As the weakness passed and I felt a ray of hope overcome my mind, I saw a pen out of the corner of my eye and immediately felt compelled to explore how I was feeling in writing. The first line that came to mind summed up my thoughts on the matter...life goes on.
A new lease of life...
Straight away I felt a surge of energy pass through me, an outpouring of emotion I hadn't felt before. It was a very cathartic experience. This resulted in an exhilarating six-year journey sharing my thoughts and feelings through spoken word poetry in the most authentic and creative way I've ever found possible.
The highs and lows of life as an artist, a lost soul, in patient, husband and first time dad all the while making my way through the light and the dark.
On that lonely night six years ago, the power of words changed the direction of my life and led to the creation of my first poem...now through discovering the opportunity and community here at WA I feel I've found a home and new direction for my written work.
I'd encourage anyone regardless of how confident you feel in your writing ability, to try expressing yourself through words - like us all here at WA, it might just change your life :) :) :)
