There is real power in words...
They can help you feel understood, they can help communicate important instructions and they can evoke the most passionate reactions or diffuse the most volatile of situations.
You can start the process of creation turning your thoughts into things, reimagine old situations or create new worlds. You can also exorcise inner demons.
You can bring forth what's deep inside as well as setting your imagination free.
A glimpse back in time...
On a lonely evening back at the start of 2017 I was feeling slightly despondent about life and focussing on the wrong direction. Looking backwards rather than to the future, I was sad about my recent break up. The loss not only of my relationship and my best friend but of what I believed to be my future.
Pouring over old photos and reading more-up-to-date Facebook posts is rarely a good idea...
As the weakness passed and I felt a ray of hope overcome my mind, I saw a pen out of the corner of my eye and immediately felt compelled to explore how I was feeling in writing. The first line that came to mind summed up my thoughts on the matter...life goes on.
A new lease of life...
Straight away I felt a surge of energy pass through me, an outpouring of emotion I hadn't felt before. It was a very cathartic experience. This resulted in an exhilarating six-year journey sharing my thoughts and feelings through spoken word poetry in the most authentic and creative way I've ever found possible.
The highs and lows of life as an artist, a lost soul, in patient, husband and first time dad all the while making my way through the light and the dark.
On that lonely night six years ago, the power of words changed the direction of my life and led to the creation of my first poem...now through discovering the opportunity and community here at WA I feel I've found a home and new direction for my written work.
I'd encourage anyone regardless of how confident you feel in your writing ability, to try expressing yourself through words - like us all here at WA, it might just change your life :) :) :)

Life and death is in the power of the tongue. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Words have incredible power and kudo's to you for expressing this truth so eloquently. Like you, I am so enjoying expressing myself via the written word. I am following teachers who caution you about what you say since words carry a vibration that goes out into the universe and we all know about karma. The reverse is also true and words of positivity can bring us unexpected blessings as you have discovered personally. Great post!

Well currently I'm following some of the teachings of the late, great Dr. Joseph Murphy, Florence Scovel Shinn, Conny Mendez, Esther Hicks, and there are some people on YouTube who are putting out some incredible content. But, you know, the more you dive in, the more you realize that they are all saying pretty much the same thing. In other words, quantum physics is very much sounding like the ancient wisdom of mystics, seers and metaphysicians...how 'bout you? Anyone in particular who really inspires you?

I really enjoyed Jack Canfield’s ‘The Key to Living the Law of Attraction’. I’ve just finished a fantastic book aimed at writers and artists called ‘Show your work’ by Austin Kleon…and I’m delighted as my wife found a book today that I misplaced at the start of the year! It’s called ‘Art & Fear’and delves into questions around being an artist and why we do what we do- really interesting stuff. As far as YouTube, I love a channel called Impact Theory which is by motivational speaker called Tom Bilyeu. He believes a lot in plasticity of the mind and our ability to improve our own situations through persistence, drive and desire. Along with a few other things lol :)
Murphy, Cannon, Shinn are old school metaphysicians but I love their work nevertheless. And Canfield was awesome as well. I'll have to check out Kleon and Art and Fear too. I am familiar with Tom Bilyeu and I find that he, along with many others, delve into neuroplasticity. Dr. Joe Dispenza is one of my fav's on that subject. Looks like we have a lot in common so absolutely looking forward to the dialogue here at WA! Hope you're having a wonderful day!
