Lesson leant on my 9 to 5 working life

Received a new WA member following notice this morning, so I went to visit her profile prior to my reply as usual. Found that quite interesting about her profile as I used to be like her when I was young at her age in study life. She is Katja @Mokka.

She mentioned that she was a smart and well behaved high school and university student. But got stuck when she started her 9 to 5 job life. She quit and went for a 1 year backpacking.

I was a hardworking, smart and well behaved student too and still working hard and smart after entering to the full time working life 7 to 9 and always more than 5 days week work. I got stuck too but never give up and kept moving forward with the hope and dream to have a better life after struggling for years growing in a single parent family.

I knew my education qualification was not meeting the corporate requirement after years of struggle and been promoted to management level. I took my hard earned savings to do my Master Degree on weekends while still working hard on weekdays to compete in this so called corporate world. I did it and got my Master in Business Administration (MBA) with 8 distinctions out of 12 modules doing it part time. Great job and been promoted again to a higher position in the company.

Thought that I had achieved my dream as life getting better and easier... too bad that company announced restructuring with the new President joining and all the staff in our country were redundant. So we were being retrenched with compensation.

Lesson learnt: No matter how hard you work for others, you have no control over the business, except the business owner. It is no secure at all no matter what is your position in the company and how much you have contributed. Although I still have to work for others in full time, I no longer working hard and smart as this will get you to assume more responsibilities. I just need it for living, no more recognition is needed... I need more time to build my own online business which I could have full control over it. I want freedom, I want back those things I had sacrificed to the stupid career previously.... WA is my hope!

To all the 9 to 5 friends, let's work hard and smart to build our own success while we still need this 9 to 5 for living.

Cheers

I agree there is nothing more satisfying that being in control of your life, I have worked hard all my life in various working shift patterns and the 9-5 I felt was always the hardest..

Hi Katie, the worst feeling is have no control over the hard work you have contributed. Also flexibility is another concern like how you mentioned the below in one of your recent post:

"The thing I love about working online is it really is a 24/7 working opportunity and now I still have 24 hour window of opportunity to schedule my work for the week ahead,"

This is the flexibility of working online 24/7/365, yeah!

I agree Jan that is what I love about this hope you have a good week

Acquiring an MBA while studying primarily on weekends and holding down a full time job is a monumental task and accomplishment. You should be extremely proud. However, looking back, had you known about opportunities to be had online, do you sort of wish you had used the money and time to build an internet business like what you are working toward now? I always wonder if I would be in a better place had I known about more options at a much younger age. I don't fret over it-I just wonder sometimes.

Hi Broderick, thanks for the compliments.

In fact I came across the internet opportunities right after my completion of my MBA. I started to find out more and looked for a course or any degree of it. But too bad there was no such course in any colleges about online business. So I did research by my ownself. Unfortunately, internet was not really ready in my country or Asian (except Hong Kong & Singapore). Even paypal didn't accept my application and I had to apply it via my cousin's address in Singapore.

I was first learnt to create website using blogger, freewebs, weebly, wordpress.com and last wordpress.org. I created websites for my own interests and also for my friend who started a very small homestay business. But creating websites seems like my interest and not making any money although with little traffic as I didn't know how to turn the little traffic to profit. The only little money I earned was Adsense but the account was later being banned.

Later, I found that some online opportunities advertised during my own research, I was so excited and started to pay monies to all those scams, that's why am still a loser in online business and almost to give up as no one could understand me as I couldn't prove to them that internet marketing could really bring in passive income 24/7/365 once we have built up the strong foundation.

I'm glad to join this great community where most of the people I meet here are like-minded, no longer talking to aliens, haha... :)

That is the first time someone mentioned me anywhere :)
Thank you :)

I wish you all the best!

Interesting story. Good post!

Thanks, Ron! This is the true story for being 9 to 5 working group...

Thank you for the post Jan!

Hi Francis, believe you understood it well in the 9 to 5 working life. Hope you have started your online business and out of the 9 to 5 rat race. Am still struggling on it.

Hi Jan,
I see this alot in younger people's profiles as well and want to spare them the disappointment that often comes when we pour our life's into building another person's company/wealth. Sometimes it just takes wisdom and maturity to realize that for oneself.

Hi Sheila, in fact I won't mind working hard for the company's success if we are part of it and could share the piece of cheese. But too bad this is never the story.

Hi Jan a very insightful post , there is probably a few of us working in a job while working on our online businesses .It will make success taste that little bit better at the end of the day .
Alexander

Hi Alexander, agree to you that we will definitely appreciate it more and taste a little bit better as working this part time really not easy while still need to handle the full time job for living.

Great post Jan! Thank you for this. I learned my lesson and never wanted to pursue Masters. More I gave more they wanted. No more! Now I work only to keep me living. Take care and best of luck!

Smart and wise lady Anita. The more you give to them, the more they demanded. We just need it to pay off the bills like what Rosie mentioned. So that we could have peace of mind in term of financial to focus in building our online business empire. This may slow down our progress but as long we are working on it steadily in pace, we will still achieve it. Let's work together towards our goals and dreams. Best of luck to you!
~Jan

I forgot to add: I always try to check out the profile....you realize just how varied we are and I am amazed at how many 'successful' people are constantly joining because of WA's good reputation!

Hi Rosie, I totally agree to you. Many retirees working hard for their entire life but ended the 401k or retirement funds couldn't make them live with the lifestyle they wish/want after the retirement.

May we both succeed on that one!

Sure will!

You summed it up perfectly.....while we still need this 9 to 5 for living....sigh. At least it pays the bills...for now....sort of....lol :)
