It would be Great if WA website is Mobile Friendly

Ever since I joined WA, here become the place that I would not miss to visit daily. Due to the problem in carrying my laptop everywhere and impossible to have wifi at all the places I go, my smartphone has been playing an important role for WA notification and internet access to login here beside calling.

However, too bad that WA website is not mobile friendly. Remember one of the training mention that we must choose a responsive website theme when creating our website as most visitors use smartphones and/or tablets to access to web nowadays. But why WA website is not?

I was so excited when found WA Apps. Without any delay, I quickly downloaded and installed it. But, seems the same that not mobile friendly and very slow :(

Back to my laptop better!

I really wish this could be improved, so that I could spend more time here anywhere whenever I have spare time and not limited to the time when my laptop and wifi are available.

How about you guys, any good advice?

I have not used the mobile app for sometime as I have my wee tablet however I am wondering how hard it would be to get all of this mobile friendly give the sheer amount of information on here having said that perhaps they are working on it behind the scenes

Katie, let me try to explain how the WA website works.

The amount of information on WA is irrelevant. WA website works like WordPress with a database and template files. There are only a few different layouts on the WA website, so in effect just a hand full of template files.

A template file has placeholders where information from the database is supposed to go. Whenever you click on a link to go to a page the web server takes the information of that page out of the database and uses the template file to create a webpage on the fly and sends it to your browser. (see diagram)

All WA has to do is create different layouts for the different screen sizes. There are numerous open source JS scripts that can be used to detect the screen size.

Does this answer your question? :)

This is great I am not techie thank you for taking the time to explain this for me more stuff I have learned today

You're most welcome

Hi John, thanks for the detailed explanation. This is what I meant for the last layout in mobile friendly. Anyway, it is great to know from Kyle that they are working on it and looking forwards to the enhancement by 2016.

Now I know who to seek for advice when get stuck in those technical matters, especially Wordpress, haha... :)

I am reading this site by scrolling up and down, side ways - left and right with iphone5.

I think even with iPhone 6s I tried it out at one of the shop that sell iPhone , it is not as responsive as other responsive themes out there.

I think for sure WA is going to move into a more responsive theme and we are patiently wait g for this to happen.

Bear in mind that WA is developed 10-years ago and the mobile theme or blog theme. Is not out there in the market.

We already have a rock-solid platform that cater for a new blogger like us to gain knowledge and experience. I would not mind to have this old theme for the time being as I have full confidence that WA going to take us on a whole different level of experience when 2016 cormes.

Who knows we might have a better way of blogging through mobile devices apart from using a mobile responsive theme?

It is definitely a challenge for WA to have a click-of -a-button migrate current site to mobile team but if there is a will , there is a way.

Facebook , Google all comes in surprise and a unique way. Let's see what WA install for us or perhaps we can feedback privately to Kyle and Carson what we want and how we want it.

John.

Hi John, at first just wonder why this great platform is not in responsive manner like most of other sites nowadays, as we are being taught the same. Also because my existing job as a tester that testing our company's program and apps in web and various mobile versions. So, this came to my mind.

But now have a better understanding after Kyle's feedback and agree to you that patiently wait for the enhancement in 2016.

Thanks for your feedback and comment!

I know how frustrating this can be. Maybe one of these days connection problem will be solved. I hope so for you.
Lora

Hi Jan,
For the most part WA works very well on my mobile device. However when it comes to using the tools like the help or question area or keyword tool it doesn't work. I would love to see this fixed.

Hi Jan
Have down loaded the app that you have mentioned . Didn't really do it for me clunky and slow , seems to be a common problem with third party developers when trying to interface with others platforms . Just my take on it . Don't think ASKA Software has a relationship with wealthy affiliate , in fact seemed a bit spamie come to think about it .
Removed it from my phone .
Currently run with huawei's 5 inch screens excellent on the go as long as there is wifi . Don't seem to have a problem connecting with wealthy affiliate . The more involved you get the more connectivity you need . Looking at the lap top , tablet , phone combination my self . . Think it will work really well .
Alexander

Hi Alexander, the Apps is really slow and not worked. I removed it too, just to share what i found. It really work very well with my laptop. Could access with my phone, mainly for reading comments, but not really well or in full control although with a great wifi connectivity.

I just don't want to waste my spare time when outside office or home where I could also do something at WA if can have better control by using the phone, haha...

Anyway, thanks for your feedback :)
~Jan

We do have some work to do on mobile although we program everything to work and test in mobile, I also feel the mobile experience could be a little bit better and we will be working towards this as we move into 2016.

There are many elements where we have a fully functional and responsive mobile version (like the live chat, works brilliantly in mobile), but there are others that we will be working to improve.

Mobile is easy. Replicating and not taking away from the overall experience here at WA (most mobile sites are actually WORSE than the actual full version) is a little more difficult. Simply going "mobile" is not the solution so we have to be very careful as to how we integrate this so we don't inadvertently impact our experience to our mobile users by going "more mobile".

Hi Kyle, many thanks for your feedback with better understanding. Reason to post this is I really love this community and WA becomes part of my life since I joined. Really hope that I could access it freely with full power in control wherever I go, Looking forward to the better mobile experience in 2016. Thanks again for creating such helpful and powerful community and training here.

I agree that the WA website is a hassle on my phone to read and navigate. and I got an iPhone 6 Plus! WordPress is not a problem... there is a native WP app for that.

The crazy thing is that creating a responsive layout isn't even all that much work. You only need to add one extra CSS style sheet and a JS script to the WA site to make it responsive so it's really not that much work at all. That's why I don't understand why it hasn't been done yet. Someone well versed in CSS could make it a responsive layout in 10-20 hours

Hi John, this is what I meant and the problem we encountered when to read and navigate the WA website. Still can access and read but not that friendly as those responsive web.

Now that's weird. I could always access WA in my android whenever I want to. It's impossible! I'm so sorry you have difficulties accessing WA on your smartphone.

Hi Betcha, we could access to WA website with our Android phone but the fonts very small and not responsive web. So we would have to zoom in to read, but the screen keeps moving around to the side bar when our phones or hands that hold the phones moving, unlike FB or those responsive web with mobile version.

WA is mobile friendly. I stay in touch on my smartphone every day.

I didn't care for the app myself, but WA is mobile friendly. I'm on my phone right now! As far as using Wordpress on mobile, that's another story...

Hi Jason, thanks for your feedback. But when I access to WA with my phone, the left side bar remain there and cause the content with narrow column. As such, hard in reading.

Hmmm, haven't had any issues like that on mobile.

That's weird, I'm just using a 4 year old iphone and it's working pretty well for me. (Except Wordpress) that is another story!

In a few days I'll be getting my new iphone 6s so it should work even better. Can't wait :)

Randy

Seems like all members have no such issue, But my friend and I encountered the same problem with our Android phone. Mine one is Samsung while my friend is using Red Mi Note.
