Swapping or Trading Your New Skills Learnt At Wealthy Affiliate
While there are many bartering companies that offer to act as the ‘middle man’ this is something that you can easily do for yourself, it just takes a little creative application!
If you don’t think that you have anything to swap, just consider the individual pieces that you are learning here rather than thinking that you have to know it all!
For example if you write down, every time you learn something new you will be astonished by how much you know, which will also do wonders to boost your confidence and give you a sense of achievement.
You Have A Valued Skill Few Others Know About
Just fifteen months ago I knew nothing about building websites and it was only since joining WA six months ago that my knowledge has really accelerated.
It happened quite by accident really when I finally decided that I needed to replace a window in my house. It was quite a large window and so was an investment. I called up the window fitter who had done other windows in my house over the years and who at that time was working for another company.
He proudly told me that he had just started his own window fitting business and explained how he was getting everything set up. I casually asked him if he had a website yet and he told me that a friend was going to do one for him. I simply said well if that doesn’t work out for you let me know.
When he came to fit the window he asked me whether I could still provide a website for him as his friend was too busy and I said sure! We then agreed that a swap of services was a great deal for both of us – and that was it!
The window fitter knew not a sausage about building websites and he didn't want to know anything either! I wrote a list of all the items I could offer him - it's good to give people a visual of what you will do for them, it's a task list for you to tick off and acts as a 'contract' between you. To them it looks impressive!
This was my first dabble into offering my new found skills. It's far removed from my hypnotherapy business, which can fluctuate at certain times of the year and it’s therefore great to have another skill to offer and one I now intend to pursue further.
Sometimes it’s just about taking the plunge and believing in yourself!
Until you get your toes wet you won't know how far you can swim! Remember that many people have little knowledge about building websites or SEO or even how to connect their Google+ account (if they've even heard of it!) to their website.
These are services you can offer individually for a fee - whatever you are comfortable with - and as you gain in confidence so you can charge more. Just stretch your comfort zone a little and it will quickly grow with you!
Have you traded services or offered your services for cash yet? Is it something you are thinking of doing but not quite sure how? Is it a confidence issue?
Post your thoughts below and I will answer each one!

Hi Janice,2 Gold Stars(1 for you personally & 1 for the post, don't want to forget it) Thanks for your great help. J
Great time to introduce fiverr.
This is exactly what it's For. Selling your services such as freelance writing works well here.
Thanks Beverley, he is and it's still a work in progress because I'm waiting on him providing me the content! You find that people even have difficulty writing their pages so there's another service one could provide!
Thanx Janice for reminding us to think outside the square. There are more than one way to make money on the net.
Yes it's all to easy to get tunnel visioned! You're absolutely right there's more than one way. :)
HI JAnice, this is actually one of my plans, but I'm still trying to get my head around it. I'm still thinking whether we need to have a good knowledge of HTML codes, customizing designs, etc. I can do a straightforward WP theme for a small business, though. Thanks for sharing your story.
Hi Jen, I don't think you need to worry about learning HTML. Anyway you can easily find code should you need it by doing a Google search! Only 2 weeks ago I learnt some CSS, which I din't even know what it meant! I bet you know more than you think you do!
Won't be long then Loes! :) Actually when you teach your skills (to a friend say) you will absorb them much more deeply.
Hey Janice, I've done this with my landscaper and a place that does party for kids. I had my landscaping done for free for a year. And my I have a free party I can use with that other lady so it does work. But I've also made a few thousand dollars building small businesses website as well. So yes there are so many ways to use the skills we've all attained here if you think outside the box. Great job!
