When I get my computers, they come with Norton antivirus. I don’t like Norton because it is free for like 30 days and then you have to purchase it. On my computer I uninstall Norton and go download the antivirus I like to use. I like AVG and I put it on any and every computer I use or work on. I have been using AVG Antivirus for years and it’s been my Antivirus of choice as far back as I can remember. The free version is a good version; it’s enough for most of our malware removal needs thanks to its superb virus detection engine. AVG has consistently exceeded my expectations and like any good and reliable Antivirus. It is constantly improving which makes it quite adaptable and one of the reasons it’s a top name in modern Antivirus software on the market today.

Why I like AVG

One of the main things that you will realize about the AVG Antivirus, especially the advanced Internet security suit, is that it’s quite easy to use especially if you are accustomed to a traditional Antivirus package. It’s as simple as downloading the installer from the official website and having the entire package run on your computer in a few minutes flat. AVG Anti-Virus Free is advertised to protect against viruses, spyware, adware, and Trojans. It features a Resident Shield, which provides real-time protection by actively scanning files as they are copied, opened, and saved. It also safeguards critical Windows files. AVG Anti-Virus Free includes an E-mail scanner, which scans incoming and outgoing mail. AVG Anti-Virus Free does not include a personal firewall, but neither do most anti-virus solutions. AVG might not be considered the best Antivirus but it’s among the top ten (10) best Antiviruses out there and it keeps on improving each year. So with some common sense and this great Antivirus protecting you there is very little to worry about as you go about your daily activities on the web. If you are looking for a super Antivirus that will save you from all there is out there on the net, then I am afraid that this is not the Antivirus for you.

However, if you have a level head on your shoulders and think before you act, then AVG is the right backup that you need and it will never let you down. In my option this is all you could ever ask of a top Antivirus and any company that swears that they can go beyond this is trying to sell you dreams and rainbows. Also, best of the entire package is reasonably priced so you never have to worry and should you need to test things out the AVG free edition or their 30 day trials are great grounds to get your feet wet and see the magic for yourself before getting the full protection. Please note the Antivirus is not a resource hog but will require a modern and decently capable computer to run, well especially for very fast scan times.

AVG offers different types of scan modes, namely

1. User Sensitive
2. Low Priority
3. Medium Priority
4. High Priority

User Sensitive mode is the recommended mode.

Scan speed varies from system to system. The only unpleasant issue with AVG 2015 is with its toolbar. The toolbar changes the default search engine to AVG safe search (powered by Google), irrespective of your choice while installation. Even though you choose not to change the default search engine, the toolbar will change the default search engine, of Firefox, Chrome and IE. This is the only issue I faced.

Features with AVG

Pros

• Protects against virus, spyware, root kits etc.
• Includes identity protection which prevents data theft.
• Light on system resources. Didn’t slow down system or Internet browsing.
• Fast system boot.
• User Sensitive scan, scans at good speeds without affecting system performance. As we scan on a regular basis, the duration of scan will go on decreasing by considerable amounts.
• Useful Toolbar.
• Offers large number of options to customize the program.

Cons:

Toolbar changes the default search engine even though we opt not to change it.

It offers complete protection against malware, has behavior blocking feature and also scans emails and network traffic for malware. So, for an average computer user these features should be more than enough assuming that you are using a firewall.

In Conclusion

There is a lot of different antivirus software out there. You can choose from Norton, Avg, McAfee, and Avast. They are good in one way or another. It is up to you which one you chose or which one you like the best. Just know that no matter what you will need any kind of antivirus software to keep your computer safe from viruses. I like AVG and have used it a long time now. The free version is good, but if you are looking for more protecting and more features then you may want to get the AVG pro.
