Peeling Back The Layers

I had a moment of pronounced reflection this afternoon. After going for a walk through the local park and feeling the peace and tranquility of nature, my mind became perfectly still. In comparison to the previous days, this came as a welcome relief. This is because recently, negative thoughts had been constantly racing through my head. These thoughts were mostly self-critical, telling me that I was not good enough for a variety of reasons. These reasons stemmed from a number of origins, but mostly concerned having a lack of ‘things’ – of money, possessions, security etc. But in this moment at least, my mind ceased nagging away at me and I had the opportunity to properly reflect on my heart’s true desires.

Suddenly the thought came to me, “What do I really want in life?” It’s a question I’ve certainly been asked before. It’s also a question that in times gone by, I would have boldly proclaimed that I knew the answer to. I would have answered by saying something like, “I just want to be happy”. Or perhaps, “I want to own my own home one day”.

On the subject of home ownership, this seems to be a universal dream of many people, often fostered by the media. It’s as if once we have purchased and paid off our own home, then we have truly accomplished our life’s mission. We have achieved independence and can now be classified as responsible adults. In Australia at least, home ownership is regularly referred to as the ‘Great Australian Dream’.

I will admit that these two goals are incredibly important in their own way. Furthermore, at least where happiness is concerned, I know that this is something that drives me each day. Happiness, however fleeting, is integral to what it means to be human. Who among us has never searched for the meaning behind happiness?

But in this moment that I am referring to, I felt as though I had more clarity than I normally would. My intuition told me that what I really wanted in life, what I needed, was to be the best version of myself that I could be. I needed to stop wasting the opportunities that had been given to me and I had to reach my full potential.

I am a writer, a creative mind seeking to unveil the raw beauty of this world. I want to inspire others through offering insight into how I have overcome the hurdles in my own life.

Today it dawned on me that I had an abundance of ideas that I need to share with the world. My goal is to now tap into the infinite pool of resources available to me (such as the WA community) and prove to myself and others that it is possible to live an extraordinary life.

Here's to becoming empowered by this epiphany!

All the best pushing forward :)

You are a profound Writer and Author indeed. You know, success can be determined and better yet defined using many different theories and ideals. Maybe it is the ownership of a home, maybe it is buttoning your shirt in the right order or could it be getting out of bed before 10am?

Whatever is deemed as the ultimate dream it should make you smile nonetheless. That is just my own ideal of what success is truely all about.

All the best for 2016 and beyond

Kindest Regards

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Thank you so much for your kind words!

I certainly agree that the idea of 'success' can and does mean different things to individuals. For me personally, I once defined success as having a job that required me to wear a suit. How much things have changed!

I love your notion that a dream should make you smile. To me, that is so simple and yet so powerful.

Have a wonderful day and best wishes on your WA journey.

Regards,

Jake
