Kayaking at Moccasin Point in March!
My Don Pedro Office
When I woke up this morning I knew my work location had changed for the day! It's March and has been so cold this winter, I can't help but embrace this beautiful sunshiney day!! It's going to be 74 degrees and I am ready to be outside!
What should I do today?
My family has put me in charge of our 4th of July camping trip so I figured today I could cruise down to the Lake Don Pedro Recreational Area and find a campsite. I might as well toss in my kayak, just in case. Maybe I should grab a sandwich from Kevin's Meat Market too, just in case I'm down there awhile! So down the New Priest Grade I go!
It's a short 9 mile drive to Moccasin Point @ Lake Don Pedro. Today there are only a few fisherman out and about in the boat parking area. I like unloading my kayak here because I can drive down right near the water. There are a few Canadian geese floating around and a pair of mallard ducks near the shoreline, I think they want some bread! The water is so calm and smooth this morning, I can't wait to get out there and get to paddling! Today I brought my little bag so I could bring my campsite map, my phone, a Snickers, water and my sandwich. Dang, I'm loaded down! Let's do this!
And I'm off!
Aww yes, I love being out in the water! It's been a long winter! The sunshine on my face and arms feels so good! Paddling along the shoreline, listening to the birds chirping in trees and the turkeys gobbling in the ravine, I'm loving it..No cars, no noise at all, just nature's sounds...keep paddling girl...I'm not sure how far I paddled by my arms were a bit tired now but it felt good to feel that burn! Makes me want to paddle faster! I better slow my row before I flip out of my kayak! Haha
I finally get to where the campgrounds are and I beach my kayak..it's always a bit tough getting out of this darn thing, as it likes to flip me out from time to time! Made it out!
Today I am checking out the Dry Camping Area, which means no water, power or sewer hook ups. This is what I call camping, none of that glamping for the Oliveira Family this year! Hiking up and down the campsite area I find 3 great sites, near the bathrooms and still with a view of the lake! Bammm, that took about 20 minutes! Perfect!
So I head back down to my kayak and I see some fisherman in a boat across the cove..they aren't catching anything. Think I better have sit on this piece of drift wood and say some thanks to my Angels for this beautiful day and keeping me safe out here in the water. I bust out my sandwich for a bit to eat and enjoy the beautiful day..There is a blue heron about 50 yards from me, I wish my camera could catch the amazing color of it's feathers.. silvery blue and it's neck is so long..what a beautiful bird! The turkeys are getting louder as they get near the water, 2 Tom's and 13 Females..I love it when the animals are moving about. Its almost noon time so they are all coming down for some water! I see a Osprey flying low over the water just waiting to snap up a fish. It's beautiful here I wish I could stay here all day.
Of Course!
As soon as I finish my sandwich the wind starts to blow..of course, now I have to paddle against the wind! Darn it! Well it's been a great day here at Don Pedro researching our 4th of July campsites, I hope my family enjoys it as much as I enjoyed finding it today!
Thanks for checking out my latest adventures near Yosemite National Park and surrounding area!!
Keep your eyes open for my next adventure!
Happy days are lake days!
