Hello Audrey, that is a very good question. As far as I can tell, my Texas friends firmly believe that Texas is the best place to live. Of course, that is a matter of opinion.

G'day Liam, You seem to have popped up on my radar, and right now I'm having a beer and I used to be a Guinness drinker. So I was wondering now that your in the States do you still drink Guiness?
Reply
Ireland123 Premium
Lindon, yes I still have a drink of Guinness occasionally !!!!! Having said that, it does not taste quite as good as in Dublin. The only thing for sure, is that it tastes far better than Budweiser. I am sure some of my American friends might disagree with that. !!!!!
Why did you stop drinking the black stuff ? What part of Australia do you live ?

Liam

Live In Brisvegas, Anything is better than Budwweiser. That stuff is real Weasels P---ss. I started drinking it to put weight on as a teenager. I then started adding cider to it. After one night of 8 pints of Black Velvet, I have never drunk it since. My favourite brew at the moment is Tooheys extra dry. Ps Aussies don't drink Fosters.

Liam...noticed that you have "liked" some of my posts and for that, I thank you. Am now "following" you to see what you are up to! LOL!! Where do you live in Texas? As much as I love Texas, and I'm native born, I'm not sure I'd call this "God's Country"...especially after what I've seen in Ireland! LOL!! I know it's a heck of a lot cooler and greener than it is here at the moment! At any rate, best wishes for MUCH success!

Hello Vince I live in a small city some 25 miles southwest of Houston called Sugar land. It is where Imperial Sugar used to be. You are correct , Ireland is cooler with summer temps around 75 F and it is greener due to all the rain that is dumped on Ireland from the Atlantic.
I do enjoy living here in Texas, it has been very good to me in general so I cannot complain. Good Luck with your future.

Hello Vince, nice to meet you. I live in a small city 25 miles southwest of Houston called Sugar Land. This is where Imperial Sugar used to be. Ireland certainly is both greener and cooler than Texas, due to its geography and very reliable rainfall, this all helps. I am taking my time regarding the training, no mad hurry. Good luck with your future

Liam...Know exactly where you are! In fact, my daughter probably will be moving to the Houston area next year after she graduates from Texas State. What brought you to Texas?
Reply
Ireland123 Premium
Vince, it was the oil and gas industry.. I typically design and check refineries, petrochemical plants and offshore platforms ( Rigs ). Right now it is NOT a good time to be in the oil and gas game. The price of oil has fallen over 50% since this time last year. Trends show oil prices continuing to drop for at least the next two to five years. So, I see Houston's job market declining in a big way. Normally, Houston is a very vibrant and thriving city with plenty of work for everybody. Unfortunately, that is not the case now.

Liam...the oil and gas industry is one of the most fickle industries...unless you're in aviation! My Dad was in O&G for years, and I was with American Airlines for 28. I remember going with him, when I was a kid, to some producing rigs in East Texas. Was always fascinated by what I saw...even got to see them bring in a well. Sure hope the current downturn doesn't affect you in any way. At least you have a viable "Plan B" working in your favor! Best of luck.
Reply
Ireland123 Premium
Vince, I too hope that the oil business gets better. In my humble opinion I think we have a much bigger economic problem to address. I do NOT believe the cheerleaders in government telling us all, that the US economy is in good shape. Far from it, I believe that we are on the titanic and we have already hit the iceberg.Over the last two years at least, vast sums of money have been taken out of the stock market by America.s wealthy investors. What is it they know, that we do NOT ? We know that the US dollar and many foreign currencies such as the Euro and the Yen are losing value on a regular basis. All are trending down. My prediction over the next 2 to 5 years is a massive contraction in the US economy and that really means the economies of the world. Unfortunately, I do not know what the answer is ?
That ends the lesson for today, I will now get off my soapbox !!!!!!!

The best of luck to you.

Liam...I couldn't agree with you more. And for some reason, our "fearless" political leaders in Washington just can't seem to grasp the idea that we HAVE to stop our foolish spending. One of these days, we aren't going to be able to "print" our way out of trouble and I'm afraid that day is coming sooner rather than later. As for me, I'm looking at two answers...gold and silver! And even with that approach, I'm not sure that it will be enough!

That's even more reason to take advantage now of the resources that WA provides us. Best wishes to you, my Friend!

Vince

Vince, I agree with you 100% regarding gold and silver. I would very strongly advise buying both. They will be lifesavers when the economy crumbles and the world's currencies lose value. The treasury does NOT like the fact that gold and silver is the only real money. It has always stood the test of time. When we all go down the economic slippery slope, gold and silver will go along way to protecting us.

Take care Vince

Liam

It's certainly a shame that "black gold" has lost so much of its luster! Hopefully, the downturn won't last forever, but then...what events will have transpired to make it go up again? Either way the price of oil goes, I'm not sure that it will be good. Jeez, this IS depressing! I guess we need to buy gold and silver and back it up with a successful WA venture!! LOL!!
Reply
Ireland123 Premium
Vince, I know one solution to increase the price of oil ? If a war was to break out destroying many refineries and petrochemical plants in the middle east. I know this would do the trick ? Of course. Our Arab friends would need the skills and know how of America and Europe to rebuild. This would take years to complete and in the meantime oil would sky rocket solving our problem ? I am NOT too sure if our current administration would buy into that, but there is always hope.!!!!!

Hi.Liam. Never been to Ireland (I know, silly as it is next door to UK) but I have been to Texas and it is a fantastic place to be. I only spent 3 months there but they were amazing. I still remember the armadillos, blue bonnets, people talking about "chicken fried steak" (whatever that is - I am veggie!) and the great Mexican food down there. Lucky you!

Hostelgirl, thank you for your kind words. Before I emigrated to the USA, I lived in the UK for a couple of years, Bristol to be exact. I did enjoy my time there, with some very good friends. I was lucky that work was plentiful and the money decent. I agree, that Texas is a very special place. It has a strong economy and many different types of plants and animals. You have been very fortunate to have spent some time here in Texas. At least you can say, that you have sampled it, NOT everybody can say that.
I wish you every success, with your journey reaching your goals.

Hello Stephanie, it is yes to both of your questions. In life, sometimes we NEVER know where we will end up. As a child going to school in Ireland, I had no idea that I would end up in Texas. If I did know, I would have studied Spanish and not French. What part of the USA do you live ?
