The road to building a website does not have to be a complicated process. A lot of companies promise to be easy to use but end up taking many hours of frustrating procedures and bureaucratic stumbling blocks it just gets too hard. We know, we have been doing this for many years. Everything we reveal to you here is information derived from our experience as internet consultants to businesses.

STEP 1 What should I title my website?

A very important first step is to register your domain. A domain is the address that web surfers will use to reach you. E.G www.cnn.com Without this no one can reach you via the internet. It is very important you get this name right. A website with a memorable name would be good, but it must reflect what you are offering. dogtrainer.com is easy to remember and google will more than likely put your web page high in searches for "Dog Trainers". If you have a more obscure product, you will need to do a bit of research to work out what words are being used to find products like yours. We use an invaluable tool which will help you find out which words people type into google to find domain names. The tool will tell you how many people monthly, where they are from, how many websites appear etc. we use Jaxxy to provide all this. The information is integral to your online success. STEP 2 Register the Domain

Ok now you have done your research and worked out what words internet surfers are typing into google to find products and you are ready to register your domain. On the whole we recommend registering a .com domain if your target market is global. .com is recognized as commercial and usually U.S. based. For the purpose of getting customers to see your wares .com is a good choice. If, however, you are looking at a localised offering of products and you are only interested in having customers come from your local area then it would be a good idea to register a domain that is for your country. These are TLD's (Top Level Domains) and they are country specific. .com.au for instance is Domains for Australia. .cn is China etc.You will find that different countries may have requirements for registration . In Australia you need to have a registered business name to register a domain .com.au. To register a .com there is no need to have a registered business. Google your domain idea name and see what comes up.

STEP 3 Hosting

Once you have registered a domain you will need to have a home for your website so people can view it. Hosting is a space on the WWW that creates that space. With hosting you get allocated a number of email addresses which are yours as long as your domain is registered. If you want a reliable and inexpensive hosting solution you can search and you can sign up with a host that will step you through setting up your domain on the servers.

STEP 4 Building your site

Here is the fun part, building your website. There is a lot to consider when building your website and one of the biggest reasons for failure is bad planning. Thankfully you can edit your website daily however you do not want to put up content that may disappoint possible customers that want to see your wares. Doing this will save a lot of time down the track.
