Invisible Visual Editor is now visible!

The fight for 96 hours has just ended. After writing reasonable amount of content in my site, I wanted to give the final delicate touches of fonts and colors. I had no idea that there is something like visual editor. Although the heading ‘visual’ was there on the editor screen alongside ‘text’, I never clicked on that. For me it was something related with images (the name visual suggests that).

I placed some images here and there with the help of text editor and media. I could make some of the words and sentences bold or in italics. As the time passed I felt the necessity of bigger font size and colors. The last resort was the WA community. In response to my query, dear friends Domw and Rich responded. I came to know about something like ‘Ultimate TinyMCE’. I never knew till then that there is something like ‘TinyMCE’ which should have been functional in my default wordpress editor.

I installed ‘Ultimate TinyMCE’. The buttons were visible. I was happy and made some coloring. I was exhausted but was overjoyed and responded to ‘Rich’ that I had won. But, it was not to be. Next time when I logged in, the visual editor again became invisible.

The real battle started…….

My site was looking horrible because it was colored partially, which I did on the onetime appearance of the visual editor. The option to me was either to color all the required places or I must remove the colors I have already made.

The first tooth and nail attempt was to copy the html codes from the already colored words and paste it on other required places. There was some damage control. But, how to change the font size? For whole one day I kept on studying html scripts to find out the solution of the problem. It was a difficult process and I had to stop.

In the meantime in response to my query, many of our community friends came out with their solutions. I discovered that the problem was not unique to me. This is a very common problem. I sincerely tried to act on their suggestions. What I did?....

Uninstalled the Ultimate TinyMCE , there was no positive result

Reinstalled TinyMCE, no result.

Ensured that I have not installed any extra plugin

Checked on the screen option that I have not disabled visual editor on the editor window

Changed my theme to twenty fourteen, no result

In response to support ticket suggestion, searched for something like ’Kitchen sink’, nothing was found

Uninstalled and reinstalled ‘Ultimate TinyMCE at least twenty times, no result

Scanned through the pages of wordpress support site, no clue

As per somebody’s suggestion, my attention was focused on the browser.

First, I deleted all cookies, then I uninstalled my Firefox browser and reinstalled it, there was no result, ‘TinyMCE’ was invisible

By the grace of God, finally it clicked. I installed Google Chrome browser and everything changed. The visual editor buttons were visible. I immediately installed the ‘Ultimate TinyMCE’ plugin. Oh, what a beauty? All buttons are visible and functional.

I must say thanks to all my dear community friends who ‘paid it forward’, especially to DomW, Rich, Kyle and support ticket people who responded immediately and number of times. I am proud of this spirit existing in WA.

The documentation…….

For all beginners, I must give a documentation on the chronology of steps they should take on this issue, if the issue of visual editor takes place( To make a real justification of my efforts put in on this issue):

1.On installing the site for the first time, one must ensure that the visual editor is displaying the buttons. If not, then it should be installed again properly meticulously following the guidance given in the WA training.

    2.If it does not work….

a.Go to “Edit my profile” by clicking on the top rightmost corner of your page(clicking on the image slot. See that your visual editor is not disabled. Keep the box unchecked.

b.If you can see the basic visual editor buttons(one line), you may try installing “Ultimate TinyMCE”(be careful about this spelling, it should be exactly this). Follow the guidance given at https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/ultimate-tinymce-plugin-the-ultimate-training . This would help you to get extra buttons making it more convenient to edit.( Remember, by default “TinyMCE” plugin must be there showing some buttons on your visual edit screen and “Ultimate TinyMCE will only augment the number of buttons)

c.If you do not find the extra buttons even after installing “Ultimate TinyMCE”, please click on “Kitchen sink”(placed on the basic visual editor buttons lines at the left of “Fontstyle” button. It hides and unhides extra buttons.

d.If, no result please try installing “Ultimate TinyMCE” again after unstalling it.

e.Since, by now you have not installed any extra plugin, the chances of plug in conflict would be remote. The possibility remains with the site theme or the browser.

    f. First try with removing cache and cookies from your browser and see that the default visual editor buttons are visible. If so, reinstall the “Ultimate TinyMCE” plugin to get extra.

g.Many people said there is occasional conflict with the browser. Install a new browser and open the editor window to see whether the basic edit buttons are available or not.

h.The next possible move may be to change your theme.

I hope by this time your problem gets resolved. The next step would be to go to the community, requesting a support ticket at the “Build my website page” .

Above all, please do not go to the extreme of frustration. The fact is, that there must be a way, which you do not know. Some help and some effort will definitely solve the issue. Keep patience. If I look at my battle, I have won not only because of the solution I found, rather, the problem gave me a learning, which I have earned and now I am a more confident person to go ahead further.

So keep it up, we have to reach our goal. Best of luck!

I ran into visual editor hiccups today. Someone lead me to this discussion and I found the solution. Thank you!

Always welcome. Best of luck.

I have noticed that the search engine used makes a big difference. I usually use Internet explorer but sometimes word press doesn't do what it should when I'm there. If some thing in word press doesn't work as it should I go to goggle chrome and then it will work. Sometime it goes the other way around. If it doesn't work on goggle I go back to explorer and it works there. Sometimes I keep both browsers open to get my work done. Strange but true. LOL

Hi there inspiration1! Nice blog and will definitely help future members. I would like to add my experience on this.

Here it goes:
My visual editor goes invisible because my laptop is old. Sometimes to force it to appear when I need it, I change the "Screen Option" to 1 Column. Refresh! Voila!

After all my efforts just like what was written on this blog, this one worked for me. Thanks lansamarie for pointing this out to me. :)

Nice sharing. I shall add this in the documentation. After all, we should learn from each other's experience. Why everyone should go through the same pains? Thanks and best of luck.

Ohhhhh I am so sorry, Inspiration1, I don't know where my mind was to make this kind of mistake.
Thanks and I'll be there to see your website, good luck!

Never mind. Welcome and best of luck.

Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into this by laying out the info here in your blog. This will defintely help many for the future making it easier!

Ken

Thanks for your appreciation. I am inspired!

Thanks for sharing. Your problem and tale of solving it will give wisdom to many like me.

Swadesh, I had a similar problem. The only difference is that I've been using Ultimate TinyMCE for a long time and I could not understand why, all of a sudden, the visual editor, and the option buttons disappeared.

Then I remembered that a few days ago there was a plugin update and maybe that caused the issue.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin (with my cache turned off), and everything returned to normal.

I use Firefox, by the way, and it works fine for me.

Sorry you had to go through all of that, and thank you for sharing your experience and troubleshooting steps.

You had a worse time than I did. Glad it worked out for both of us.

Happy New Year! ~ Jude

Yes, thanks, bingo, bingo. Happy new year to you too.

Wow, you are a fighter! I just installed the pluginUltimate TinyMCE, but have yet selected the buttons to show up. Wish me luck! If I have problem I will come back to your blog here. Great information!

Thanks and welcome.

Invisible may I see your website?

So persistence wins the battle in the end.

Thanks for your words.
