I do not use this tool, cannot say much, in particular not knowing what you mean by medium competition. I think I have never used a keyword with monthly searches 1K. This must be hopeless, but perhaps your competition is niche dependent and not so bad.
To have any visitors, you must be ranked. If competition is high this is difficult. My qsr limit is 30, just to compare with what you use.

Don't use Google Keyword Planner (GKP) -- it's geared to people looking to advertise on Google -- for keyword research.
That traffic amount you're seeing isn't clear because it's presented in ranges (e.g. 1k -- 10k and so on) instead of actual numbers (like 600 monthly searches) because you probably own a Google AdWords account with low or no spending.
Plus, GKP doesn't offer you decent keyword suggestions and please don't mistake the "Competition", that metric is for advertisers only. "Low", "medium" or "high" refers to the amount of competition between advertisers bidding for specific keywords.
