What does a domain really cost?

I posted this in the live chat in answer to someone else's question who was questioning the 14 cost of a WA domain. He thought it was high and was considering buying a domain on a competing site. I don't blame him for thinking about price. We are all trying to make money not spend money. Business people need to keep an eye on expenses. But I did reply to him and thought I would post it out because maybe people aren't thinking about what a domain really costs and weren't on the live chat. So I went on GoDaddy and checked the current prices. Sometimes I feel like I'm buying a used car when I purchase a domain!

What a domain REALLY costs:

GoDaddy is .99 cents FOR NEW customers only, 8.99 and up for the rest of us. Then add 14.99 for the privacy, which you have to have as a blogger if you don't want strangers showing up on on your porch and then 3.99 a month, which equals 47.88 per year, for your email that matches your website address. You need to have an email that matches your domain name because you are in business and you need to look professional. Kitty@Cat.com is better than Kitty@gmail.com and you will need a support@cat.com email address as well.

So that .99 domain on Cheap Domains or GoDaddy costs you 63.86 per year with privacy and email. Or you could pay 13.99 to 15.99 on Wealthy Affiliate for the same thing. Totally up to you.

Very enlightening and exciting. Great information here. Thank you.

And you've omitted the cost of hosting your website.

Elsewhere it's around $15/mo. Here it's included in your membership.

GOOD INFO THANKS

This is a good information. Yesterday, I bought my domain through WA. Then when I searched through GoDaddy, it was so much cheaper and I thought, "Oh no! I've overpaid". After reading through your post, I realised what I paid is worth much more than the cheap price in GoDaddy.

We've all chosen to be here to learn how to build and monetize websites ... so guess what? We will continuously need safe and secure domains as we add to our Internet properties. When you do a comparative cost analysis of the complete domain process as you have done Debbie it's become a no brainer to go with WA.

This post by Carson explains all the reasons this is so true:

Great break down for people, thanks for the post.

Great comparisons there, thanks for sharing :)

Yes great post , thanks

Good points, which spell it out very simply. Much better deal here at WA! Regards, Lisa
