What does a domain really cost?

I posted this in the live chat in answer to someone else's question who was questioning the 14 cost of a WA domain. He thought it was high and was considering buying a domain on a competing site. I don't blame him for thinking about price. We are all trying to make money not spend money. Business people need to keep an eye on expenses. But I did reply to him and thought I would post it out because maybe people aren't thinking about what a domain really costs and weren't on the live chat. So I went on GoDaddy and checked the current prices. Sometimes I feel like I'm buying a used car when I purchase a domain!
What a domain REALLY costs:
GoDaddy is .99 cents FOR NEW customers only, 8.99 and up for the rest of us. Then add 14.99 for the privacy, which you have to have as a blogger if you don't want strangers showing up on on your porch and then 3.99 a month, which equals 47.88 per year, for your email that matches your website address. You need to have an email that matches your domain name because you are in business and you need to look professional. Kitty@Cat.com is better than Kitty@gmail.com and you will need a support@cat.com email address as well.
So that .99 domain on Cheap Domains or GoDaddy costs you 63.86 per year with privacy and email. Or you could pay 13.99 to 15.99 on Wealthy Affiliate for the same thing. Totally up to you.
