Have Some Fun with It!
Writing is hard!
I'm an artist so it's always been easier for me to draw a picture than write a paragraph, and we won't even mention my inability to spell properly. So the most daunting task for me has been the prospect of writing content.
My wife is an author and has been a writer all her life, (well from the time she learned to write the alphabet as a child anyway). Writing comes easy for her, probably because she's far exceeded her 10,000 hours doing so. But this is new to me, and I struggle. It's not that I can't write - it just takes me soooo looong! It's a time-consuming and laborious task for me. But I've found it goes much faster and is much more enjoyable when I let myself have fun with it.
I write as if I'm talking to a friend - I insert little side thoughts (or jokes) to make it personal and fun - I let myself go off on a rabbit trail to tell a personal story (that's relative to my point of course). This style makes my posts easier to write and more enjoyable for my readers to read.
I see many people writing blog posts that read like Wikipedia. I find my self nodding off trying to read them. If I wanted a Wikipedia definition of a topic, I'd, well, read Wikipedia.
If you write your posts like a human being, injecting your own thoughts and ideas on a topic you'll be more likely to generate engagement with your site as well. But remember to focus on information that will inform, educate and help your readers. Don't talk about yourself too much or for no reason. (This isn't FaceBook - no one cares what you're having for lunch).
So keep it focused on helping your readers answer a question, solve a problem, or research a topic, but have some fun with it at the same time. It will be easier on you and your readers.

Good post Dave, you have to have a bit of fun while you are writing or it becomes a chore.
I think you have to let people know you are human and have a personality of your own.
People can relate to you more when you write this way. Keep up the good posts.
