Does Adsense Still Make Sense?

About a year ago now I decided to add Adsense adds to my website. I had been approved for an Adsense account about a year prior to that, but hadn’t earned much from it so I thought it hadn’t been worth it at the time.

However, from about May/June last year I tried it again and the income generated from the ads started to increase quite a bit each month. Towards the end of the year I was getting up to $400 monthly. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was able to earn, because I didn’t think the MMO niche was the best fit for Adsense.

This year however the Google algorithm updates have had an impact upon my traffic and subsequently on my ad revenue. Since January I have only been getting about $100 each month.

It’s nice having the income stream from Adsense, even though it can be up and down. However, now that the income isn’t what it was, I’m wondering whether it is worth keeping the ads given they could negatively impact upon my websites bounce rate, and subsequent website rankings. It also is a concern that it may possibly reduce the amount of people I refer to Wealthy Affiliate.

Got some thinking to do!

I’m trying to decide whether to apply or not.
I have 50 posts but I’m not sure if I want ads.

Hi Lisa,

You should have enough posts, but yes you have to decide if you really want ads on your site. You can however control the kind of ads that are shown.

Ray

Thank you very much for the advice 🤩

You’re welcome Lisa.

I have two websites, but only one of them utilizes Google AdSense. I've decided not to use AdSense on my MMO site, but my other site has it and it has generated some income, especially now that traffic has really increased at that site.

If you're MMO site was generating $400 a month, that's actually pretty decent, but then you have to decide how you want to generate income from that site. Do you want to continue to generate income from ads or do you prefer income from your affiliate links?

Me personally, I prefer income for affiliate links from my MMO site so I'm working hard to make that happen. I know ads would take away from traffic sticking around at that site so that's why I opted not to have ads on it.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your opinion on this. I think I’m moving toward your way of thinking. I need visitors to stay longer and click on the affiliate links more.

I appreciate you reading and commenting.

Yes it does, but sometimes it's hard to add the code. There are plugins for it

Hi Eugene,
Thanks for your input. Yes, Adsense can provide a steady income stream, which makes it a difficult decision.

Yes there are some good plugins which make adding code very easy.

I have today tried to ask for google AdSense account and I was denied

Hi,

You haven’t been a member here long, just wondering if maybe you don’t have enough content on your website yet?

Regards

Ray

You need to have a lot of posts to be accepted.

Google AdSense will not approve websites that have copied and pasted content.
