This May Be Simple But It's Not Easy!
Is it just me, or does anyone else here on WA find this website writing/construction/training thing hard work?
I am getting the idea that the principles of having a successful site are simple. That is, I have learnt that content is crucial, that you need to strategically work around keywords, and so on. I am even getting a bit of an idea about the more technical stuff, which I thought I would really struggle on.
The training I enjoy very much! I am a big fan of Jay’s video training in particular, it is very informative, entertaining and I love his humour! (And I have also learnt that Canadians will spell ‘humour’ with a ‘u’!)
However, what I am learning is that the really hard work bit is the original writing and content. I know that you don't have to present a piece of work that word be worthy of literary accolade, however it does take me quite some time and lots of redrafts to create an article that looks pleasing to me at least!
I am not complaining, far from it, let’s face it, if everybody could do it then everybody would do it. But what I have learnt is that this all takes a lot of hard work and dedication.
I am a long way from having something of my own that is a genuine working and attractive site. But I am willing to keep working, keep on with the great training here, and keep trying. What I have found is that the community here is fantastic, everybody is helpful and this is really encouraging. Thank you all!
So, I hope this post is of some encouragement to the newbies out there who are finding this website idea not as easy as you thought it would be, and are feeling a little despondent.
My advice is to spend say at least 30 minutes writing every day (more if you can - it depends on what other time commitments you have in your life), keep up with the training and read/watch it again and again, engage with the community here. And finally, enjoy!
Have an awesome day everyone!

I think it's fantastic that you work so hard to craft your articles. I've seen far too many people who pound out thousands of words I can't even read just to get another article done with a high word count. The time you put in = the results you get back. Always strive to write the best article you can - your readers can tell and will respond accordingly.
Thank you for the encouragement Jeannine, that is very much appreciated. I was starting to think there was something wrong with me because it takes me quite a while to a post to an acceptable standard. Hopefully the efforts will pay off!
Dedication and commitment. You have it in spades Amanda. Legally versed and a technocrat as well! I'm not going up against you! :)))
Ha ha ha! Thank you Mike, ironically I think the legal background holds me back, applying the law seems easy compared to having the skill to write interesting content! Have a great day!
The thing is that creative writing is no easy task, no other way to say it, some folks come here and just explode but for many, it is just a painful hard slog. I think that you have summarized it really well Amanda If we stick with it when things fall into place and results will come. the hardest bridge to cross is that one where writing becomes ingrained in our routines, we all have busy lives but if we are into this, then at the end of the day the online presence that we create can have life-changing benefits.
There are days when the learning curve can be steep, and the thing that I have realized over the last little while that in order to be relevant then we need to keep on learning. creating that online business extends way beyond that website. but as you have commented things do fall into place.
All the best and keep going
Hi Alex, thanks for that, this is just what I wanted to hear! Fortunately I love to learn, so that is just as well!
When I first joined I spent quite a bit of time on my business website (my day time job), doing a lot of blogging, and there I discovered Yoast which I love! I actually got quite a few of my pages and posts ranked really well, as a result we are getting a lot more 'internet' enquiries. So thank you WA for the training!
But this is not why I joined. I joined because I want to do something new, so I am now looking at this with fresh eyes and to spend time on a new project well away from the day job!

Good advice, and conversational style takes some of the fear out of writing,You are doing great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Courtney, yes this is new to me to adapt a more conversational way of writing, I guess with familiarity you will become more efficient with the writing production...
