Report
I have just completed Wealthy Affiliate's 4th training level and I guess it's time to write a report on my progress.
I signed up to Wealthy Affiliate years ago, but back then I only used it for a few months.
I came back to WA at the beginning of 2020 and I decided to re-start the whole training from the beginning. I also decided to build a new website from scratch.
I can't work full time on my website because I also have another (unrelated) freelance job and I am studying part-time for a Master's degree. I am trying to be as constant as possible although it's not always easy. Some days you can work 4 hours on your website and read WA's lessons, some days you only have half an hour to write comments / ask others to comment on your website.
So here are my results since I came back to WA:
- Completed 4 certification courses (40 lessons)
- Started Google Garage's "Fundamental of Digital Marketing" course (it's a free course offered by google in cooperation with Open University and International Advertising Board; on completion, you'll receive an official certification you can share with employers)
- Created a website and posted 11 content-rich articles targeting low competition keywords, including 2 articles containing affiliate links
- Set up Google Search Console and Google Analytics
- Improved my website's design
- Improved my skills in "Affinity Photo" (a less expensive alternative to Photoshop)
- Set up 3 social profiles for my website (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter) and also a personal Twitter, Pinterest and Twitter account
- Created a privacy policy and a cookie policy that complies with GDPR (I live in an EU country and it is mandatory)
What I haven't done yet:
- Applied to Google AdSense. Why? I used to have AdSense years ago when I was on Wealthy Affiliate for a few months, but recently I read that they have become much stricter in accepting new websites. I read several independent blog articles that suggest not to apply before you have at least 20-30 content-rich articles / posts on your website.
On my new website I haven't closed and affiliate sale yet. Frankly, I don't expect any affiliate sales before late 2020. I am still building traffic and, while my articles have been all ranked on Google, they are still far away from Google's first page.
I recently read a blog post here on WA, saying that articles on brand new websites should target keywords with less than 30-40 QSR. Before reading this post, I was targeting keywords with less than 100 QSR.
I guess it makes sense to target keywords with VERY low competition when you have a brand new website.
Thanks for reading and stay well!
