Google Search Console: do you request indexing again every time you modify a post or page?

I often find myself re-editing old content after learning new things about SEO or about my niche.

Currently all my posts are indexed in Google. Initially, it took many days for Google to index them so I created a Google Search Console (formerly Webmaster Tools) account to request indexing every time I published a new post.

After publishing 7-8 content-rich articles, Google started indexing my posts very quickly (usually within a day) so now I am using Search Console primarily to track weekly clicks/impressions and to understand what keywords bring new users to my posts.

Now I am wondering: do you request indexing AGAIN once you edit an old post / page?

I have read some posts here on WA about that. Still, I don't get what's the point of requesting indexing for a page that's already indexed. Maybe I am missing something and somebody here can shed some light on this topic.

Thank you and stay well.

I agree with Tony. Why wait for Google to stumble across it. If you have made some major changes then getting it reindexed may put you higher in the search rankings right away.

Thank you, Feochadan.

Hi!

I don't believe that it's necessary, actually keeping your site updated is the best way to get indexed faster.

I assume that cause you're here on WA, you're blogging and you're adding new content (blog posts) to the site consistently. Google’s site crawlers recognize that your website is active, and it will crawl the site more regularly.

This is why submitting your site for reindexing is unnecessary if you remember to add relevant/fresh content to your site.

This is just my opinion. I hope this helps!

Yes Orazio,

anytime that you make significant changes to your post/page you should resubmit them.

Additionally, when you make major changes to your website you should resubmit a sitemap.

Great question my Friend,

Tony

Thanks for your advice, Tony! Would you say that editing your on-page SEO settings qualifies as "significant change"?
