Adding your Twitter's timeline to your site and choosing what you use social media for.

After completing Wealthy's affiliate social engagement course (Level 4 in the Online Entrepreneur Certification) I have created 3 social media channels for my new website.

I immediately noticed that Twitter makes it very easy to incorporate your profile's timeline in your website's sidebar (or in any section that allows you to add widgets).

All you need to do is to visit https://publish.twitter.com/ , insert your twitter profile's URL in the box and generate an HTML code.

Then you copy this HTML code, go to your WordPress dashboard, select "Appearance", then "Widgets", then "Custom HTML" and paste Twitter's HTML code.

I find this option very useful if you use your Twitter profile to post short thoughts on recent events related to your niche, which is what I do. You can also use it re-tweet some posts from institutional organizations in your niche.

I think this gives visitors the feeling that your website is in touch with current events, which may increase its credibility and its appeal to those who visit it for the first time.

In the WA social engagement course, Kyle suggests that you carefully decide what you use your social media channels for. If you don't do this, you risk wasting a lot of your valuable "hanging out purposelessly" on social media (time that can be better spent working on your website and creating new content).

I have decided to use:

- Pinterest as main social media network to promote my website

- Twitter as a tool to keep my website in touch with current events in my niche and to share my thoughts about them.

- Facebook just to have a symbolic presence on the world's most used social network. I'll just use my Facebook page to share my website's articles after publishing them.

This way I know exactly what I am going to do every time I open social media networks and I avoid wasting time on deciding what to post or tweet each day.

I will let you know if this social media strategy pays off in the coming months.
