Holistic Entrepreneurship

Holistic living requires a complete approach to the thoughts we have, the relationships we have, the food we eat and the beliefs we have around money. Holistic just means that all aspects of the whole are taken into account. In the Western world we tend to categorize and compartmentalize aspects of our lives. This goes against the Holistic approach and opposes the way I personally care for patients and clients.

First consideration to accept is that WE are responsible for all that is good in our lives as well as all that isn’t serving us. We are not passengers in life’s vehicle, passively waiting for our “luck to turn.” WE are the drivers of our life vehicle and we choose the direction we take. The victim archetype is prevalent in the Western world and forces people into herd mentality, settling for mediocrity and subservient behavioral tendencies.

So what are the key elements to being holistically & successfully, self employed?

  1. self-care
  2. consciousness
  3. diligence
  4. patience
  5. believing in yourself

Personally, I find that having a holistic approach helps keep all areas in my life in check, as when one area is out of whack, it affects the other areas, thus obstructing the flow. For example, if my family life is challenged by a teething baby, a sick kid, home improvement projects etc, then the family aspect of life needs extra support or else my businesses won’t flow. I’ve experienced this through failure to consciously put my family first amidst growing our skincare line AND taking on a major home construction project in Costa Rica. I failed. And thanks to that, I learned.

This seems obvious, right? That how consciously we act is going to affect the success the whole. Have you ever even considered relating the word “success” with family? You’ve heard of family dysfunction, right? Then success would be the opposite. Family dysfunction occurs when the one area of the mother’s or father’s life takes prominence and the person was not conscious of the ripple effect.

Many people leave their jobs due to health issues, the family falling apart, stress or simply getting burned out. If you can relate, you’ve come to the right place! It is impossible to enjoy life, be happily present with your kids or build a fulfilling business on an empty gas tank. Taking the time to pause, reflect and DREAM is the key to embarking on a successful entrepreneurial path.

The most successful entrepreneurs I have learned from are healthy, believe in themselves, set high goals, took time to get the proper training and stayed the course they chose. Creating financial freedom and manifesting abundance is better enjoyed when accompanied by optimal health. Just take a look at Richard Branson as a great example.

Great poste Hilde. Integrity is another word for this. All components are integral parts of the whole!

I have done many of the things you speak of in your great post and I never give in, but, it's proved to be a lot more demanding than just needing a positive attitude.
The people we are surrounded by also reflect on our lives and sometimes steer us in the wrong direction, and unfortunately if it's family, we are stuck between the rock and the hard place.
It can be difficult, at least, it has been more than that for me.
Many of thanks for sharing, cheers, Tosh :)

It does require more than a positive outlook indeed. However, without positive thinking we are more likely to fail. I've chosen family at times when it was necessary and then had my weeks where running my business took the bulk of my energy as family was doing great. It's a dance! And it is not easy. But I'll take this over a 9-5 mundane job or only getting evenings with my kids ;) Plus, we only learn from challenges, right ? :) Thanks for your input Tosh!
