100 KB - Picture File Size for Faster Loading
I watched Kyle's training about where to find free pictures to add to your website to make your content more appealing. I added some pictures to my first post. Yay me. Something I didn't hear Kyle mention in the training however was that a large file size for your pictures can really slow down how fast your web page loads up. Waiting for web pages to load is not anybody's idea of a good time I think. Another web training that I have taken suggests that you keep your picture file sizes to less than 100 kb.
TAKE NOTE: Clicking and dragging a picture to fit into a smaller area will not decrease the file size.
The program they recommended to reduce file sizes was Irfanview - which can be downloaded for free. It is especially good to use when uploading personal pictures from your digital camera because sometimes those files are pretty large - several megabytes.
I'm not the expert on this subject and would appreciate if anybody could point me to more in depth resources on the subject or how you process your picture files.

You can use WP to size your pictures also. You can modify as you wish in Media. Right down to the pixels without using an outside program.
