About Herbie1
Joined June 2015
I grew up on my father's farm and I could think of nothing I wanted to do more than to join him in the family business. This did not happen because he was taken ill and sold the farm. Somehow I found myself following behind him through University to become a teacher. This was to be my vocation. I rose to the dizzy heights of Headmaster in a lovely Junior School in North Yorkshire where in my teaching role I taught Science and ICT to children up to the age of 11 years. After 25 happy and exhausting years, I retired.
From the start of my teaching career I led and encouraged all sorts of outdoor education and sport. Over the year's many 100's of young children learned to play rugby, football and to camp and stay away from home in hostels and hotels. most memorable of all for me and all the children and parents concerned were the ski trips to resorts all over Europe. This meant twice annual ventures to the snow between 1973 and 2006 and by outcome there must now be 1000's of former pupils spreading this passion to all and sundry. I know of at least 3 that have gone on to become qualified ski instructors and two that actually work on the slopes in Austria. One of whom, will see me again soon in Maria Alm, where he lives and works with all his family!
Now retired, I continue to throw my all into supporting my rugby club in Harrogate and travelling with my wife as much as I can. However, it has always been my dream to establish an online business to support my two beautiful girls and their families. with a background in IT, I thought I would find this easy, but as so many others, I learnt a lot, spent a huge amount and made practically nothing! Hence my eagerness to join WA!
As to what I want to achieve with help from members of WA, is very clear cut. My beautiful 4 year old Granddaughter Grace, tragically died just before Christmas last year. She had just started school and a few weeks in was taken ill suddenly and rushed into hospital. At first we were told it was appendicitis, but she went down hill very fast. She was rushed into The Birmingham Children's Hospital, where a biopsy confirmed a very rare and untreatable kidney cancer. The biopsy itself, caused the cancer to spread to all her major organs and she died in terrible pain 3 days later. From a happy, bright schoolgirl with many friends, to dead and buried in less than three weeks.
Not surprisingly the family in devastated. We will get through it, but not over it. My daughter, a doctor, is dedicating the rest of her life to raising awareness and funds for research into children's cancers. We were horrified to learn that less than 2% of funds raised for cancer is spent on researching children's cancers, despite the fact that cancer kills more children under the age of 18, than all other deaths added together. This is just not acceptable in a modern world.
My daughter has already made a wonderful start to fund raising and spreading awareness. To date, less than 3 months after establishing a simple website, she has raised in excess of 30,000 GDP. The website and Facebook serve their purpose, but most of the money raised has been at a local level through word of mouth.
I wish to dedicate my remaining time in retirement developing an online commercial business to support this wonderful family project, in the hope that one day, children like "our Grace," will have the chance of survival. For my part this means giving freely of my time and 100% of the profits to research.
If members of WA are willing to help me to reach this goal, all my dreams can be realized!

Thank you for following me, Herbie.

I feel deeply with you. It is my innermost conviction that no soul and personality that has ever lived will ever be lost.
Not even one electron of energy is lost, even physics is slowly but surely discovering that.....

I think it's the hardest walk only down here.

Doesn't always help to know, because we have to wait the wait....

I wish you much comfort and success, driven by your strong purpose....

Prayers and much Blessing to you and your Family,

I would love you to take a look and tell me what you think!! Jen has been working on this for less than 2 years and it is about to become an independent charity! With all best wishes to you Wanda and the very best of luck with your own ventures. Chris

First, allow me to express my condolences on the tragic death of your granddaughter. I can not imagine the horror your family went through. I hope your dreams are fulfilled and your goals realized.
I'm a new grandparent and can't imagine the loss of our little one.

Second, I'd like to congratulate your decision to become a teacher when your dream of becoming a farmer died. How lucky the children who had you as their teacher. How lucky are we that teachers such as you exist. Your love and compassion show through in everything you said and have touched my heart.
I pray that you see your goals come to fruition. I will think of you and your family's tragedy and hope that the pain of losing a loved one so young will fade soon.

Barbara, how kind of you to look through my profile and to respond with such a heartfelt message! I am very touched by your observations and indeed I was very fortunate to be able to work with so many wonderful young people and to influence their lives. I am lucky to be still in touch with many hundreds and it is a joy to hear and read about their careers and new families.
We are indeed challenged with coming to terms with the loss of our beautiful Grace who sadly left us just after she had started school. My daughter, Jen is a doctor and so too is her husband and they and we will never get over Grace's passing, but we are getting through it.
Jen is a remarkable mother and fortunately has another younger child called Jessica. Jen has thrown herself into leading from the front with our new charity and already in less than a year she has raised over £60,000 for research into child cancers. We are all shocked to learn that while cancer is the biggest killer of children and these are different to adult cancers, less than 1% of all money raised for cancer research,is spent children's cancer research. So we are leading a way to raise awareness and finding funding for specific research.
Jen and others are leaping out of an aircraft at the weekend to raise yet more money and she has a massive event planned in the summer for hundreds of young families. Always on the go, she is inspiring many hundreds to join her.
Should you want to see what Jen and Grace are achieving without WA, please visit her lovely site. I think it will impress you and bring a tear or two!
Thank you for caring enough to write such lovely comforting words to a complete stranger. You are a very special person!

Hi. I've just come across your profile whilst finding my way around WA. I'm very new to this world, but like you I am also from the UK and a primary school teacher (music two days a week). I also have two grandchildren and one of them contracted meningitis at just 14 months old. Fortunately, he survived and is now a healthy 11year old. I was so sad to read about you granddaughter and my heart goes out to you and your family. I wish you ever success in your venture.

Herbie, what a great and worthwhile goal to pursue and achieve. Like many things in life, if you don't have a voice (especially a loud one) you get run over. And children don't get a chance to have a voice. So a advocate like you is drastically needed. I wish you the best and will follow your campaign on your website. I had a peak at it and it brought tears to my eyes. My mother had dementia. She always said she did not want to live if anything like this occurred. But with the current rules this choice was taken from both her and the rest of the family and she died a lingering and degrading death. Changes must be made and you are now contributing to the fight about a better medical system. Good luck and best wishes. Helen

Morning, or is it afternoon Brian! Thank you for your kind words of support and outstretched hand of friendship. I have not been here in WA for long, but so far, it has been a happy and remarkable journey. Everybody has something to offer, even if it isn't web building skills, and that IS certainly true in my case!
I read somewhere about your love of journeying through northern Italy and I couldn't agree more! Scenery to die for, great food, wonderful sun, endless space and pretty decent people too! I have seen some of Italy in early spring when everything in the valleys is about vivid green, wild flowers and gurgling streams, but so far, most of my time in Italy has been spent at speed skiing much higher up in the Dolomites! I have also been to Rome and there is much more to do in the future!
I am really attracted to Thailand, love the tropical nature of things, the people and possibly one of the best and healthiest cuisines in the world. If I live long enough, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia are on my to do list! So far, we've only managed to get as far as Bail for a couple of memorable weeks, but you have to start somewhere!
I wish you every success here in WA and I know you bring endless life skills to the table. Just follow your lessons and ask as many questions as you can. Before you know it you will be up and running! Chris

Hi, glad to meet me, lol.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for following me.

I’m pretty impressed with WA training and I think we have found a gold mine of information. Hmmm, seems like geniuses like us tend to gather in the same place (lol).

I started making money online in 2004. WA wasn't around back then. I had to learn from scratch. What took me 2 years to accomplish online, you will be able to do in a couple of months if you are new to running an online business.

The wealth of knowledge here in the tutorials and the help from fellow WA members is exceptional. I have never met a bunch of like-minded people who are so eager to help yet ask nothing in return.

When I came to WA in February 2015, I was skeptical. Seen enough online scams in my time. I searched high and low for "the catch." There was none. I learned WA is legitimate. There is no pressure to upsell me more products or services. That was refreshing.

Anyway Chris, here’s wishing you all my best for your success with online marketing.

Please feel free to send me a private message if there is anything I can do for you.

You can send me a private message if you have questions by going to my profile and clicking on the private message button; https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/grampamike

You may also want to check out my WA profile blog posts as there is some interesting and informative information there.

Here is a sample of what you will find; Here’s a little inspiration: Update: I wanted to mention that all my recent posts on my website get ranked in the top 5 for my keyword or keyword phrase. So study the tutorials here at WA. They hold the clues for getting top ranking for your web pages.

Need some pictures for your website? Check out my post.

Hi Mike, I am delighted to have found you, your experience and wisdom! I am sure that I will spend at least a week just reading your posts! I am a retired headteacher and enjoyed imparting knowledge to sponge like children much more than learning for myself! In fact it was easier to learn with children since they see things in such a clear and uncomplicated manner. My IT skills, like yours are also self taught, but sadly creating websites ect. was not on my hit list! I am making headway, but it is definitely a big learning curve with small steps to take each day! I will PM you as you so kindly suggest! Thank you and please keep in touch. Chris

Thank you for these kind words which are much appreciated. Thankfully my daughter's way of coping is to through throwing herself head first into things. Her energy and enthusiasm are remarkable and she gathers others in to help as if she was the Pied Piper! Our angel Grace still seems to be all about us, guiding and inspiring. She will not be forgotten and already a great deal of good has come about in her name. To date nearly £40,000 in less than three months through donations and all manner of charity events. This is only the beginning! Best wishes. Chris

Luther, you and other perceptive WA members have touched upon how raw bereavement can be. When it happens to be a beautiful 4 year old child who had just started school and was lively and loved by all her her family and classmates, it is a shattering experience for friends and family alike and it tests one's faith to the very core. I cannot begin to imagine how Grace's mother and father must continue to feel, but slowly they are getting through this awful tragedy. To question why a child has to leave us this way before they have properly lived and made their mark in life is hard enough, but to find that less than 2% of money raised through charities is allocated for research into cures for child cancer is simply put, completely unacceptable. Cancer remains the biggest single killer of children when all other deaths have been added together. Grace's parents are doctors and they want to ensure that Grace's short but almost perfect life is remembered and that other children in the future may have a better chance of survival. For this to happen we are determined to raise awareness and funding for specific research. Grace's mother is amazingly strong. She has led from the front and in a matter of months has pulled together all sorts of communities to make a start. Her website, which is all her own work records our progress to date. We feel Grace's spirit to be all around us and the love of family, friends, community and others further afield, means that we have a purpose and desire to carry on. We live in a society that chooses to , ignore much of what is going on preferring instead to look away. We are not alone in grieving for a loved one, but we are doing what Grace would have wanted as her legacy to a world that she was beginning to explore and love.
Luther and others, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your compassionate words and overall empathy make all the difference.

Chris, I didn't want to get into a situation My family and I are living with because, that in no way softens the blow for you and your daughter.
As a longtime believer, I struggled with all the emotions you expressed and maybe others. What I finally, came out with was, It is not for us, wee mortals, to know why bad things happen to good people but to carry on as best we can, here on earth, and wait until we get to Heaven to get the answers from the Person who made and still makes The Rules.

Hope that helps a little.

There is a famous quote from Mark Twain:

"If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first."

And that just means - do your hardest task first or at least as soon as you can in the morning. If you do this then the rest of your day is easy from there!

ANYWAY…

Bryan, thank you for such a welcome reply and heartfelt offer of help! I am delighted that you have visited my "Cure Child Cancer" site and very pleased to know that you want to help me in any way you can.
At the moment I am sticking religiously to Kyle's and Carson's lessons and trying very hard not to be side tracked too far! That said, like you I think, I am a person who wants to help others. My ranking is coming down fast and clearly the community has picked up on this. The more I learn the more I can share and help others.

I am sure that the Affiliate Bootcamp series, which I have just started, will fill in many gaps, but I do have a few questions that worry me now.

1.I am beginning to see that success in the affiliate aspect of WA should be fairly straight forward and that is exciting!

2. I need to "brainstorm" ways to monetize http://curechildcancer.com. I am considering everything and can envisage something developing that could be supportive of those who are going through this and raise funds to. I think I nee a shop of some kind, preferably via Amazon, or some other Dropshipper. All the items could be chosen to support the emotional side of caring. So fluffy toys, party bits and pieces, toys, books and so on might work.

3. My daughter has developed her own site which is already in place and could/should be connected to mine in some way. Jen's site http://gracekellyladybird.co.uk is her way of coping with the loss of her daughter Grace. Jen is a doctor and has already overall, raised GDP 36,000 through donations, sale of cards and action days. It's a very heavy hands on business and I am particular keen to develop my business to be more passive and consistent in providing funding for research. Jen cannot keep her efforts at this level forever and it may be that we have to convert to being a fully registered charity. At the moment all monies are directed through CCLG which is a charity employing its own child cancer researchers.

Sorry for so much! However, anything back would be greatly valued.

Happy New Year to you and all your family and friends. It seems to me that I have met a very special and caring person Thank you!!

Hello Herbie, Welcome! Nice to meet you, I wish you a lot of learning pleasure and fun on WA. Thank you for following me. I saw you liked this comment on another profile, here is your own:))

From the start I have written trainings for every issue I had problems with myself. I also made a checklist with 25 points to go through before you publish a post. It has been very helpful to a lot of people. You can find them on my profile on the right under trainings (click on my picture). I hope to help you with those.

If you have any questions, please add a comment to this message or leave them on my profile.
Success building your business. See you around, Greetings Loes

Loes, thank you for looking me out! I will drop by soon and go through your publishing checklist! I see no point in turning down help of this sort! This yet again reassures me that the WA community is where I want to be and to belong. As a former career teacher, I can't wait to know enough to help others to do the same! With thanks and all best wishes, Chris

Herbie: Congrats on your teaching experience and the time you took to lead many children down the road to a lifetime of physical activity through your emphasis in athletics.

Your story regarding your 4-year-old granddaughter is heartbreaking. My sincere condolences. I am not sure if I could ever handle the loss of one of my grandchildren or any of my three wonderful children.

Thank you for the Follow and welcome to my wonderful network of Super WAers. Please feel free to call on me if I can assist you in any way here at WA. Happy Holidays Herbie. DAN

Dan, thank you for your kind words which are truly appreciated. You are right in what you say, but our loss of Grace has focused us all on doing something positive in her memory and this has helped us to see a way ahead without her. I am well pleased to be following you and I promise to be back when I need help! Have a wonderful peaceful family Christmas. Chris

Grandma1945, thank you and may God Bless you too! I am not new to trying to make a dime or two online, but like many others, I've learnt a lot, spent a fortune and made nothing! I wish I had found people like you and WA a long time ago! Have a great Christmas and be thankful for what you have and treasure and never forget what you have lost. Chris

Hi Chris, It's me again, with my promise to write on your profile page. When you said "I just want an "expert" to do a once over appraisal. I can take it on the chin and I want to learn!", you set the bar pretty high, but I am up to the challenge, and its a good way to progress. So have a read of this as well as the comments to help you along. See you @ the Top!

Hi there Chris! Just wanted to stop by and thank you for the follow. I am so very sorry to hear about your beautiful grand daughter. My heart hurts for you and your family especially around this time being the one year mark since she left this earth. I will be in prayer for you and your family.
I went to check out your site but it was blank? Are you still working on it? With the determination, drive and will power it sounds like you have, there is not a doubt in my mind that you will be successful and your dreams will be realized.
Be Blessed,
Audrey

Audrey, bless you for your touching comments which are hugely appreciated. You are right in the sense that none of us can come terms with why Grace had to leave us so soon and in such a terrible way. She was a truly beautiful child, full of energy and bright too. That said, she left us with a job she would want us to do, which we are all enjoying. Jen, Grace's mother has already made a fantastic start to raising awareness and funds for child cancer research. I think today, we are up to 32,000 GDP and we have 45 organizations all over the UK that are having a Christmas Jumper Day at work or school on December 18th. This amazingly includes the High Court in Worcester and all the police force in West Mercia and Warwickshire! I believe they even intend to send warrant officers out in Christmas Jumpers! It will raise a lot of money and awareness too. Not bad in 3 months!

My aim is also to raise awareness, but I also want to set up the commercial side of fundraising online. So, eventually a shop, Amazon ect. A lot to learn!
I will send you the links to Jen's website and also links to Grace's
Facebook Page where we are charting progress. Also our change.org page through which we are making a petition to the government for change in the way money is given and used by charities for research. At the moment 98% goes to adult cancer research. Sadly, more children die from cancers than all other means of dying added together. So there is a real job to be done and we are trying to do it in Grace's memory. I hope before long we can join up all our efforts through linked sites.
Thank you especially for your thoughts and prayers. We need them to get through this and we will.
Bless you also Audrey and all your family. We will be thinking of you all this Christmas. Chris x

That is AWESOME about the Christmas Jumpers. I looked at it on the website and that's just so cool to know so many organizations will be participating.
The other really great thing is that you are actually petitioning the government for a change to be made in the way the money is handled. It's a very sad thing when pretty much all that money is going to adult cancer leaving the children out. It should at least be 50/50. I think that there is a lot of education that needs to be done as well.
For instance, when people give to Cancer Research they may think it's going to research ALL cancers and not realize there are so many different forms of cancer and that their money may not be going to research childhood cancer.
Sounds like your family is bringing that awareness to the fore front where it needs to be.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
PS I "Liked" the FB page so I'll be able to stay up to date. ;)
Be Blessed,
Audrey

Audrey, you are so kind! Thank you for your review. We are rather proud of Jen, it's all her own doing. She's a very bright doctor, who was meant to start up as a GP on the day Grace died. So, for now she wants to dedicate her time to Jess who will be two on Sunday and of course the charity.Do please keep in touch. you have cheered me up no end with such positive comments. Chris

Hello Herbie (or should it be - hello headmaster, it wasn't me it was him? my usual excuse while waiting outside headmaster's door).

Wow - your family and you have a very rough time, you have my warmest wishes for a brighter future. My sister works at a major pharamacutical research company helping find cancer cures and treatments so to a very very small degree I can begin to comprehend the awful problems this causes. I'm so glad that the newest research into genetics is pointing to intelligence behind the encrypted data inn the dna molecule. It gives me hope I'll see folk who've gone, again.

Hope is the greatest healer I've come across - stops the darkness in its' tracks. It's probably hope for a better future that drives all of our non military research. But hats of to the folks who went to help the ebola crisis from the medical corps.

Just curious - does reviewing other sites seem a little like checking more piles of homework? It would to me. Hope Harrogate is OK - my Brother in law lives there so if you hear lots of noise it'll be him (see, it is him, sir).

Having a spot of bother accessing curechildcancer, com but may be my caching overloaded again so will try again in an hour or so. Any help I can give - and I mean ANY - let me know. More than happy to link from my site to yours to promote your efforts or anything you might think of.

I hope all goes a great deal better for both you and all of your family from now on - please say "Hello" from Brighton and wish them all the very best from Sussex.

Catch you soon I hope. - Best wishes - Andre

Andre, if I had homework like yours to mark, I would have stayed up all night to read it! Very good reading and thank you! I still have a cousin living in East Sussex in a lovely black and white cottage not far from Bodiam Castle, actually they live on the farm where we lived until 1968.
Yes, profile reading is a bit like homework, but I am learning a lot about the community and how it works for all of us and meeting all sorts of helpful members.
I have only been here a few days, so that is why you can't find my website. I got to the point of publishing last night, but it looks as though I've got it wrong and it isn't there! Back to the check list and that dreaded lesson plan! Supposedly idiot proof until it met me!
I will be back to take up your kind invitation of help and linking when I am a bit further ahead.
As for your brother in law, Harrogate is a loud place too, so he's in good company! I wonder where he went to school? Take care Andre and thank you again for your interest and words of great encouragement. It is hugely appreciated.
