Why COVID has got me feeling a little bit more conscious
After dreaming about it for 10 years, I took the plunge and moved to the other side of the world at the end of last year. Australia. The land of sunshine, surfers and scenery, right?
Wrong. In the time short 4 months I have been Australia has experienced it's yearly quota of rainfall, state destroying bushfires and, just as we thought that was all over, COVID-19. My dreams of taking to the road to live that #vanlife are well and truly just a dream.
I've always liked the idea of working for myself, and working remotely. I've had bad luck with bosses in the fashion PR industry who could have been taken directly off the set of Ab Fab. No joke. Micro-managed to the point of tears, working weekends fulfilling ridiculous tasks, and paid little to no wage because "100 girls would kill for my job". Things had got to chance, and this move was the perfect opportunity.
So when I stumbled across Wealthy Affiliate one rainy afternoon in forced self-isolation, with literally nothing better to do, I thought 'why not'. I loved that the programme walked you through each step and focused on community rather than six-figure salaries. I'd done some digital marketing before and wanted to learn more about the industry and the potential to become my own boss.
When it came to choosing my niche, it seemed strangely simple. Only the day before has I been trying to search the web for 'eco-friendly gym leggings' only to find that I ended up searching around 20 different sites and confused myself with so much information that I ended up buying nothing. This is where my idea of the Conscious Living Club came from - easy, budget friendly and achievable eco-friendly fashion, living tips and wellness.
It's only the start of the journey, but I've got good feelings about it. Wish me luck!
