8 tips for working at home

Many of us online entrepreneurs have worked from home for a long time and have established patterns of work and family.

However there is a whole new tribe being forced home and away from a normal work environment.

It is not always easy to transition away from the norm and adapt to the isolation you may feel at home.

I have worked at home for about 8 years with a full time business and full time blogging to keep me going and certainly had my good and bad days.

Now we are hunkered down by Covid-19 laws that enforce the rules and restrict our mobility.

I find it hard to stay put. I am a butterfly person that gets easily bored and needs to flit around.
So I can understand the new entrants to the game and what you will experience.

OK, let's get a few things in place;

a) You must have a plan, a written plan of what you want to achieve. The plan is annual bought back daily so you can measure your progress. As an example, I am not a prolific blogger at Wealthy Affiliate forum but understand I need to do at least 30 a year. That's 2.5 a month.
It is written down and blocked in.

b) Finding a place to work that you can own. I have my own office or man cave and would never succeed at the kitchen table. Others will have different places and have to share with family members but take some space for you.

c) A daily list. Make a commitment and ensure you stay with it. Your list will include personal, family and work issues and you must have time for them all.

d) Use power working times. This puts full concentration into one project and excludes all outside influences. For example, I do writing blocks, either an hour or 600 words and very little changes me. I set an alarm and avoid all other interference in that time, . It may be half an hour but not a lot more than that hour.

e) Social media is a great way to waste an hour. Who hasn't been caught on YouTube looking at media after media of really important fun stuff? Pick your time to do it and then use the social side sparinfly

f) Manage your email time and use the rubbish bin regularly. I operate a service business so need to keep a watch on emails but only answer the urgent ones. I have three sessions a day. First up, midday and last thing when I respond or delete.

g) Meeting control is your responsibility. If you need to have meetings with co-workers then have an agenda and a time and be rigid in your application. Waffle time takes up 70% of a meeting and you can control it.

h) Training. It is necessary and must be given time on a regular basis. However, shinny object syndrome should be avoided or kept for time during television ads.
We all go there and just recognize it quickly and move on.

Finally find a mentor. My greatest hurdle was having no one to bounce ideas off or in fact celebrate with. Living the hermit life does have short comings so make a plan to share it from time to time.

Remember it is not all work, in a day you will find time for other experiences but if you have a plan the day can be made simple to manage.

I understand there are many other issues however these few can make a difference and keep you sane and industrious while enjoying the journey.

Plkease stay healthy
