Driven To Succeed - Pt. 2

Well, it's been a while since I began this saga. I'm going to let you in on a little secret, now. There's a reason I called this post Driven To Succeed. The key word here is "Driven" because that was the end result as I was discovering a new direction.

When we left off, I was relating to you how I had to figure out what to do with my incapacitated 16-year-old Ford Focus and how I had a friend (still calling her Marsha) had to drive me to work and back home that weekend. While on the way to drop me off at home later that evening, she said something that literally set me in a whole new direction.

So, after going back and forth over different options - sell the car, fix the car, go without a car... Where am i going to get the money? How am I going to get around now? Etcetera... Marsha says, "Why don't you drive for Uber? They'll give you a car."

To which she replied, "Yes they do. I'm sure I read it somewhere". I knew she had gotten it wrong, but I promised to look into it when I got home. So I did.

A few hours later, after I had eaten and was rested, I went online and Googled, "Can I drive for Uber if I don't own a car?" (Actually, I just typed in the first few words and Google completed the phrase. Apparently, a lot of others had been searching for the same information).

Sure enough, Uber did have a program in which they help you acquire a vehicle through an exchange program (which ended recently) in which you could lease a car through them with unlimited mileage and included insurance. It wasn't a very practical deal in the long run because the price was quite prohibitive: you would have to drive for Uber a LOT, not ot mention run your car into the ground to make the payments. However, it did get me thinking...

My credit was good enough to get a good deal on a new car on my own for much less than the Uber Xchange program, plus, I could cover the car payments easily enough just driving part time - a few hours a day, a few days a week. I could get a late model car, and score a great part time job at the same time! Guess what? That's exactly what I did! But it gets even better.

Seems these drivers have recommendations for all sorts of accessories for drivers. So no, not only can I make some decent money driving, - I now have a new niche. Because my site is aimed primarily at Baby Boomers, of course, I added a section about rideshare opportunities for retirees on my site. I plan on creating some of my own videos, too (after I get up the nerve).
