Why Ranking should be your Key Focus
Sometime last year, I received a call from a friend who asked me if I am a member of Wealthy Affiliates (WA). My reply was affirmative. I believe she had seen one of my posts on the Internet. I then asked the reason for the question.
She indicated that she had been on WA for several months and had setup an apparel site but was not making any income. I told her that WA is genuine and that I was earning some commissions. I also explained some other things that I will go through shortly.
There are currently millions of websites out there. As of January 2019, there were already more than 1.94 billion websites on the Web! Talking about apparel, I just did a search and got 775,000,000 hits. This means there are at least 700 million websites that have to do with apparel. If you have an apparel website what are the chances for your site to be viewed or visited?
This is not meant to discourage anyone who has an apparel website. The situation is very similar for all other products and services. The point here is to emphasize the challenge that we all need to understand in order to come up with a winning marketing strategy for our website(s).
When a person is looking for a product or service online very few will look beyond the first page that appears, meaning very few people look beyond the first 10 or so websites that are returned by their search. This is the reason many people don’t make money online, even when the website is beautiful and very well designed. What makes your website visible on the first search page of Google, Bing or Yahoo is the ranking. How well does your website rank?
In addition, getting people to visit your page does not mean they will necessarily make a purchase. We still need to convert the visitors into customers. The content quality on the site is crucial for that.
Understanding how to use techniques such as keywords, search analysis and content writing is the most important aspect of online marketing. Thankfully there are great resources on WA for that purpose. The tools and training on WA equip us to make our websites appear at the top! It does take work and time on our part though. We must be in this for the long haul, and not be after a quick buck. If you have read too much online hype you are likely to assume that you should be making tons of money two weeks after your website is up. Having a realistic attitude is important in order to be persistent and consistent in our work approach. Despite the mind-numbing number of websites and competitors out there, we can still rank at the top once we know how to use the right techniques and apply them.
