Words Have Power

Today I am thinking about some of my favorite motivational quotes.

My brother passed away a little over a year ago. He had battled alcoholism for years. I am sure many of you have seen the damage this disease can do.

Shortly before I passed away I managed to get him into a treatment program. Before he agreed to go in he and I had some pretty long talks about life in general.

It was confusing and frustrating to us both how one of us could by completely consumed by alcohol and have it take over our lives in every way imaginable while the other (me) could have a beer every now and then and not ever have it be anything more than that.

I kept giving him these silly "mind over matter" speeches which he completely dismissed. He was not one for pep talks or believing that positive thinking could really ever get you anywhere.

When he was in treatment I sent him a letter every single day and all I would say is that "Though the end seems to be nowhere in sight, tomorrow it will be a little closer than today" And then I would add a few of my favorite inspirational quotes just to irk him a bit.

After he made it through treatment he told me that those letters and the words of inspiration were oftent the little spark he needed to just get through the next hour, much less the day. So words really do matter.

So here are a few of my very favorites.
