Most people get good at the first two points in this article

If you have been around Wealthy Affiliate for a little time you probably have noticed how much attention is given to how to write a blog post

It is important that you write to your reader. In other words you write as you would talk. I like to add an image on my draft and pretend I am talking to the person in the image. It helps my writing to come more naturally. You could also pretend that you were talking to a friend

It is also important that you write for your reader. You are there to help them to solve their problems. That is why How to articles are so popular. You provide useful tips that someone can implement. You can explain why these actions are beneficial to prompt them to take action.

So where is the pop?

Sometimes you want to challenge your reader. You are aiming at getting them involved with what they are reading. You are encouraging them to participate in the conversation.

There is no formula on how to do this and it is probably more beneficial if I show you a few examples

Oh No Now he wants me to tell me a story

I have always had an interest in helping people to relax and fulfill their true potential. I wanted a product that I thought would give real practical advice. I couldn't find anything I was comfortable in recommending so I started working on creating my own product. It is still a work in progress but here a few examples of how I have prodded people into getting involved with what they are reading.

That is the pop

Pop your reader out of their comfort zone

So here are the examples:

Why would you practice the suggestions everyday?

This is a personal question. What is that you want to change about your life or how you feel about your future. I would encourage to write your answers down.

  • I want to feel ………………
  • I want to be able to ……………….
  • Clarify your own reason or motive for following the suggestions provided on this website. One clue is to look at what were searching for on the internet before you found this website. Were you trying to find something in particular? Was there a particular problem you were trying to solve ?

Here’s how you can to get a lot more benefit from the first five steps

Get a pen or pencil and some paper. Go to each step one by one and Write down in your own words what the step is about and make simple drawings that show your understanding of the step.

When you write down your understanding of the suggestions you are far more likely to use them over and over. When you can describe the information in your own words it becomes personal and you own it.

Try this out for yourself and see if you notice a difference.

If you were pretending to be confident:

  • How would you stand?
  • How would you use your hands when you were talking to people?
  • How would you walk?
  • How would you feel when you were around other people?

Get clear on what you actually want

This applies to just about anything. Making any kind of purchase, choosing a new job, planning your day, finding a new partner and the list could go on and on.

Write down all the things that you don’t want on the left side of a piece of paper and on the right side you should be able to easily write down what you do want

Write down your goal

Example: I want a new car. So you need to work out what you don't want in your new car so you can clarify exactly you do want in your new car

Now write down what you don’t want followed by what you want

I don’t want………………. / I want …………………………..

I don’t want………………. / I want …………………………..

I don’t want………………. / I want …………………………..

I don’t want………………. / I want …………………………..

I don’t want………………. / I want …………………………..

Now write down a clear statement of what you really want.

Winding it up

When writing a post see if there is a way that you can really get your reader involved by nudging them to really think about the subject for themselves. Pop them out of just being a reader and turn them into a participant.

Give them a simple written exercise, give them a practice, ask them how they are currently doing something and get them to notice how it feels when they actually do it in a different way
