Finding Inspiration in Color

I've learned this week that, whenever I want to procrastinate or am feeling overwhelmed, color can be hugely inspirational!

The Role of Color in Choosing a Theme

Kyle's indicated that there are 2,400+ themes available to Premium members and I'm pretty sure I looked at nearly every one of them before making a choice! You'd think the choice would be made on the structure of the theme, its fit with my niche and vision, etc., but no. For me, the choice based was color alone! I knew the theme I should pick the moment I saw it; the colors made me feel happy!

And quite honestly, I've never regretted my choice. I've since upgraded the theme and could easily change the colors, but I haven't; in fact, I use the free ColorZilla browser extension to ensure uniformity in color. Every time I feel like I need a little inspiration to go on, all I have to do is take a peek at my website, and I'm inspired to go back to work building it out!

Adding a Logo

Another thing I've done is add a logo. I used Tailor Brands to come up with one quickly and, just like with the theme, I knew it was right just as soon as I saw it. Once again, its color and font combine in a way that makes me feel happy every time I look at it and, even if it doesn't resonate with anyone else in that same way, I think perhaps it's enough that it lifts my spirits because that will help me get to the finish line!

And Then There Were Pictures

The last thing I've done this week to add colorful inspiration to my site is to get some images from Bigstock. Using those images turned out to be more of a project than I'd initially expected -- I definitely should have waited for last Friday's training! -- but I ultimately got them uploaded.

I selected images with colors that coordinated with my theme's colors and, while selecting the right images required a bit of time, I think it was well worth it as the coordinating colors appear to promote a sense of cohesion and consistency on the site. (And frankly, if the colors clashed I think I'd find that more annoying than inspiring!)

So I feel that I've made good progress this week -- and I owe a great deal of that progress to the inspiration I've found in color!

Color can be very uplifting. I has a scenic design teacher who would tell us that black and white conveyed structure, but that color was eye candy. LOL.

Thank you for reading the post, Ed! It's really amazing how having an uplifted spirit can make work easier.
