“Life is not a sprint; it’s a marathon.” – Author Unknown

When I look back on my history here at WA, this quote speaks to me. It’s so very easy to get overwhelmed. There is so much information within this community, and I’m not sure any one person could truly discover it all.

It’s been just over 6-months since I’ve joined Wealthy Affiliates and it’s certainly been a learning experience. Some days, I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished anything and yet on others, I feel like I’ve learned so much. Which is it? These are the moments when one needs to take a step back and take a panoramic shot of the progress, the journey and just how far they’ve come. If I were to base success just on numbers, referrals and money in the bank, etc.; then I’d say I haven't’ gone very far. But then again, I have two websites up and running. Content is getting developed daily, and many of these pages are ranked. And so when it’s looked at from that perspective, a lot has been accomplished in a short amount of time (all things considered).

We must (well, I must) remember that this is a marathon… It’s about setting the stage for a brighter and more secure future. Creating a solid foundation that won’t crumble upon every turbulent mishap. It’s the old biblical parable about those who build their houses upon the rocks as opposed to the sand.

Which one are you building it on?

What is the cost worth to develop a system that could pay you well into the future? Is it worth a year of your time, how about two? For me it is…

What If someone asked you to bust your bottom for two years, however, you wouldn't see much success initially. Would you do it? What if they had a crystal ball and assured you that if you did this - that it would eventually pay off and produce long-lasting dividends. Would you do it? Would you have the fortitude to stay the course, to continue to run the marathon?

One of my web pages is geared towards assisting runners who have had injuries. What I’ve learned is that running is 10% physical ability and 90% psychological. I believe that creating an online business is much the same. It’s about staying the course and not giving up. It’s about having realistic perspectives and goals throughout the process (especially in the beginning). It’s about following those who have successfully gone before you. It’s about being consistent and not giving up. It’s about continually moving forward and not about the pace in which you do it. Don’t compare your success (or lack thereof) to your fellow WA member, too many factors exist between them and you that determine the levels you’re both at respectively.

I hope this helps those who might be struggling. The program here at WA works. However, you must allow it to do so. Stay the course and continue to work the system. The view looking behind you is always clearer than ahead. Don’t look back with regret for doubting what was ahead of you.

“To reach a port, we must sail- sail, not tie at anchor-sail, not drift.” ~Franklin Roosevelt

Hi Gary,
You should feel proud for what you are getting in a short time. There is always time to reflect, to correct and to move forward to a better future. Thanks for letting us know what you are doing and where you are going. Good luck,

Samuel

Good morning, Gary. This is an awesome post! I might even describe it as very profound. Thank you for the reminder.

These are all things a lot of us do know (or at least remember occasionally) from learning them in the past, but often we lose sight of the bigger picture. And you are correct. Hindsight is 20/20. However, if you are driving forward while staring in the rear view mirror, you're going to crash. (Tony Robbins--not an exact quote). Eyes front and try not to waver on your path. Be resolute. Very hard to do, but very worth it to achieve one's goals. :)

Thanks Gary,Nicely written and something to reflect on,Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,Matt.

Yes, your blog was helpful. Thank you for the reminder

Great post Gary. You are absolutely right about this not being a sprint. It takes hard work, dedication, and time to develop into something thriving and profitable.
