I'd like some input from fellow musicians for my post please?

I am writing a post about how to write song lyrics. If you write your own songs, could you please send me a short response? About 50-70 words will be great. :)

Do send me a reply to this post or a private message. And don't forget to send me your music site link and tell me how you would want me to return the favor (by comments, follow on soundcloud, twitter, or social shares, or input for your crowdsource post etc.)

Thanks WA and hope your Monday went well!

Hi, I'm a professional musician and the only advice I can give is 1 don't try to be too clever (1000s of huge hits had simple lyrics). 2 don't think that you need have a story (1000s of huge hits had lyrics that meant nothing) 3 don't be too critical of yourself - don't second guess yourself (every star who's had many hits has the same story - that some of their biggest hits were written in 5 minutes while songs that they worked on for weeks were not hits. Just make sure you have a catchy melody and a memorable chorus.

Hahaha, that's a very clever reply! Thank you so much :)

That's ok, I've taught songwriting, it's very hard to teach. I've seen time and time again students write some lyrics that are fine and yet they're not happy with them. The most important thing is to hook the listener with the melody and some repeated lyric line - usually the chorus. Think about it, how often do you here people singing the chorus of a hit song then they get to the verse and go lalala. Raindrops keep falling on my head .... lalalalalala

Loll that's so true! Thanks again for that :))

My wife is a songwriter, but I am a percussionist without lyrical skills. Hope you find the connections you are looking for.

Thank you Allan!

Great topic, that's for sure... (But not a song writer myself)

Hi, I write songs in my own style, but I don't have a website for writing lyrics. Could you please leave the link so I can comment? Thanks
