Houston's Horrendous Hurricane Harvey

1st, a thanks to everyone here at WA for such care & concern surrounding the horrible flooding caused by the recent storm.

Luckily, there was no actual flooding w/in an 8-10 block radius of my house. Even though we are near a couple of the major tributary bayous in the area: Greens & Cedar. In the easternmost portion of this gigantic city, we seemed to have fared miraculously well.

Since being able to travel somewhat freely, our time has been devoted 1st to gutting the home of my roommate's brothers. As of today, we are almost finished.

By tomorrow, we'll be moving to the next house, giving a hand to their neighbors, then to the next. Over the last couple of days we've gotten to know & care for them as they lent their hands to us. Unfortunately, it is only since Weds., as the rains were still tapering off, that anyone was permitted to enter their neighborhood, as the whole of it was underwater. Still.

Even as I write, areas of the city in the west & southwest are inundated & still in the process of flooding due to spillage, controlled & uncontrolled, from the reservoirs in those parts of town. It really has to be an extra tragic situation, to be flooding when it's not even raining anymore.

At this point, I am quite lost for words. Seeing the devastation around me, only narrowly avoided by grace, I feel at once grateful & unspeakably sad. So many personal stories of heroes & rescues have brought me to tears while restoring my faith in human nature. The vast, disparate & sundry folk united in common effort to survive & recover & heal, is the sweetest, silver lemonade from the dark & sour lemon, rain clouds we could hope for, I guess. Mixed metaphor, notwithstanding. Onward & upward!!!

Very glad to hear that you were able to escape the devastation that I see all around on the news.

So glad you came out well. Yet, there is so much anxiety/concern with all the devastation going on and will be for quite some time. I have 3 boys that live in Houston and they all are okay. My mother-in-law and quite a few other relatives had to evacuate, but all are okay. I lived there for 30 years and also went through so many hurricanes. I now reside in Austin, but have so many memories/relatives/friends/co-workers there. The out pour of help is so amazing and I am so proud of my son who has been partaking in the rescues. You too ggee are amazing that you
jumped right in to help others and are a very caring person and I commend you.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad your boys & in-laws are well. With so much shut down, seems if not helping the recovery efforts, there's not much else to do. It is very hard to see so many in a vibrant community like Houston, all suffering at the same time. Everyone is putting in their part. That is why this town will be back better than ever & quicker than expected. Houston has always been the best example of how a diverse swath of the USA can all come together to simply help a fellow human being. No more or less. Every time I've seen it, it has inspired me. Keep us here in your prayers. You have my sincerest gratitude. Be well.

Lots of prayers. The only thing to be done during. Now lot's of dirty work. 20 yrs in Houston:. Allison, Ike, Memorial Day, Tax Day, now Harvey-the worst. Thanks. The country & the world are sending so much love. We feel it! And love yall back.

Apparently the greatest flooding ever in the area Ginger Now it's gone up and hit Port Arthur LA which was hit during Katrina. And Irma's on the way who knows where. Prayers are definitely needed

So worried about those places. Especially Beaumont. A few friends there. Thanks Mike, for all prayer is for sure to become blessings. Any worse, someone better build an ark!!!

My class of 4th graders has just adopted a class of students in the Houston School District. We are waiting to send boxes because the school is still flooded and they are waiting to see what damage has occurred to the classrooms. When we get the word, we will send a class set of school supplies to get their year started.

That's great of you guys to do. Thank you. God bless.

I am saddened to see the devastating images on television. I also see the wonderful heroics of people helping people. Wishing all the people in that area the best and my prayers are with all of you.
