Countdown to 2015, Day 14: The WHAT, WHY & HOW of Making Money in the New Year
I am counting down the days until 2015 arrives with ideas, information, inspiration and resources to help you earn more in 2015. Starting tomorrow, I will concentrate on actual at-home jobs and businesses.
Starting the new year is all about stopping bad habits and replacing them with positive steps. Stopping personal self-destructive habits can make you stronger and more focused, but they won't directly help you earn more money.
When you define your intentions in life, you are making a powerful statement to your mind that you understand your ability to create your own reality. You are moving out of the mindset that says “life just happens to me”.
So, how do you become crystal clear about the best way to work and earn additional money in 2015?
You may know what you want…but do you know why? That may be the question you have never asked yourself - and the key to actually making things happen.
The WHAT and WHY
You would think that with all of the opportunity, technology and variety available today, people would have an easy time defining what they want. The opposite is actually true. Our world has become so fast-moving and hectic that many people have lost touch with themselves and what is important to them.
So, as you begin to write down WHAT you want in 2015, include the reason WHY you want it.
For example, what you WANT may be to earn $5,000 per month working from home. But, WHY do you want that amount of money? Your answer may seem obvious, but the more specific you are, the better chance you have of making this goal a reality.
Here is one possible answer: "I want to earn $5,000 per month working from home so that I can contribute to my family while being here for my children. This amount of money will help the mortgage with enough left over to give my children the best childhood I can give them. Because I will be working at home, I will get to enjoy my children and influence them in a positive direction while they are still young."
The HOW
Once you know the WHAT and the WHY of earning money, you have to discover the HOW. Self-examination can help you here, too.
What is it that you absolutely love to do? What activity do you get lost in? When you do this thing, time seems to fly by and you can even forget to eat because you are so wrapped up in what you are doing. List as many passions as you feel are necessary to define who you are and what is important to in your life. Do not think about work, business or how to monetize an activity. Just simply contemplate what you love to do.
When you are finished, take those reasons and look for money-making opportunities that will give you the same emotional and intellectual feedback.
Now, here is the most important question to answer:
If everything was perfect, what would your life look like? What work would you be doing? Where would you live? What kind of food would you eat? What kind of people would you network with? Where do you spend you vacations?
Once you have your written description, you now have a picture to work with. You will have a long term vision of everything you intend to create in your life. You will be giving yourself a path for growth that can last the rest of your life.

Too often I have heard people share goals that they only held on the surface, but didn't have that deep purpose, that "why".
A good "why" will help you keep going when things get tough.
