What Is the History of Black Friday?

When and how it Started?

Does anyone have the correct answer I have been hearing and reading so many different stories about it like this one

Early 17th century (as school slang, in a sense ‘Friday on which an examination is held’). The shopping sense dated from the 1960s and was originally used regarding congestion created by shoppers; it was later explained as a day when retailers’ accounts went from being ‘in the red’ to ‘in the black’.
Can anyone shed some light on the actual origin of black Friday and why it exists.
Sometimes we do things without an reason or because of so many reasons?

Thank God, I'm not working anymore retail on Black Friday. The way that stores are doing these days, there is no Thanksgiving.

Black Friday earned that name because that's the day most retailers finally went in "the black" for their fiscal year. Up until that time most were in "the red", meaning they had not made a profit. Holiday sales started on the Friday after Thanksgiving in the US, which is why that became Black Friday. It was primarily a US tradition until Amazon introduced it to the UK because of all the deals. From there it has exploded all over the world, though buying habits in each country vary widely. Just proof globally that no one can resist a great deal!
