My journey through WA

Well, this is my first progress post, I assume as I go along I'll edit it with updates.

My Progress

Right now I'm 14 days into my WA journey. I feel really comfortable with my website and my niche, and I'm enjoying the community and the help I can both give and receive. I just finished Course 2, and I'm excited to move on to Course 3. I think the biggest lesson I have learned so far is that consistency key with building your website. Just like the Tortoise and the Hare, slow and steady wins the race!

My Niche

I have to say that I am absolutely in love with my niche! When I first signed up with WA I thought for sure that I was going to move forward with a blog about finances or budgeting. It just didn't feel right, even though it's something that I'm passionate about. Perhaps I'll create a budgeting site in the future, but for now I felt inspired to choose a niche that is more just for fun. My website is all about ideas for Harry Potter themed parties and celebrations! My vision for this site is to have a place where people can find recipes, decoration ideas, games, costumes, and crafts, all that come from the Harry Potter franchise. When this idea initially popped into my head, I immediately loved it and I knew that it was the right niche for me. I've also done research and found that no one else has a functioning website entirely dedicated to Harry Potter themed parties, so my overall goal is to become the #1 authority website for anyone searching to throw a Harry Potter themed celebration.

Successes (so far)

I have been very pleased to discover that working on my website doesn't take nearly as much time away from my other obligations as I thought it would. I am a stay at home mom of multiple small children, and when I first committed to doing WA two weeks ago, I was concerned that I would be losing time with my kids. I decided that I only wanted to work on building my website and completing the WA courses while my children were either sleeping or watching a movie. I have realized that I understand the courses quite easily, and that creating content within my niche has a very natural flow to it. I am finishing my work much quicker than I thought, which gives me hope for my future of building this website while still being a successful stay at home mom.

My Goals For the Next 3 Months

My goal is that within 3 months from now I will have at least 1 post that comes up on the first page of google when the proper keyword is searched. I've achieved the #3 spot on the first page with a different blog that I created (not through WA) a few years ago that kind of fell to the wayside after I had my 2nd baby, so I know that I'm capable of it and that I can create good content, I just need to recreate that with my Harry Potter website.

My plans to achieve this goal are as follows:

  • Complete the Certification courses through WA within the next 4 weeks
  • Create at least 3 new posts a week on my website
  • Obtain feedback for all posts on my site
  • Interact with all sincere comments and feedback for my site

I will hold off creating goals for 6 months out, because in 3 months my family will be moving states, and I want to create new goals that will be realistic to our new living situation once we get there and I figure out what goals and plans will work for me.

That takes a lot of courage to stick with your gut, even when the "obvious" choice seems more like a "winner".

Your niche just sounds so interesting...and you can very well end up being THE authority in this niche!

Great job, Gaucha!
