Testing keywords with Adwords or Bing Ads

Lately I have found that just spending a few dollars on some advert champagnes (PPC) can give me a good idea on how my keywords are going to perform when they finally get ranked in search engines.

When I create a new post, I budget about $10 to run an advert for 24 hours for my keyword/keywords to show up in the top 5 search results. After 24 hours I can then see the performance of my keywords and content through things like impressions, clicks, CTR (bounce rate) and any resulting sales. If my keyword performed badly on PPC then I know that I need to make some changes, either to the content or to the keywords themselves.

The reason why I do this is because a huge amount of work goes in to getting content ranked. Sometimes it takes many weeks before any decent rankings are achieved. Now can you imagine if you put all that effort in to your content and finally get a #1 ranking just to discover that your page's bounce rate is 100%.

I would rather spend a little money in the beginning to test the potential performance so that I know how much effort needs to be put in to getting that particular post ranked naturally. If any post is just not getting the results I was hoping for, then I will either change it up a bit and test again or I won't waste any more time on it and move on to something else.

Give it a try and see for yourself. Just remember that it costs a little money to do this but it's an awesome test kit! Hope it helps.

That's a great idea and I think I'm gonna have to give it a try for myself. I had several pages come up on google's second page and some at the bottom of the first page on certain keywords. I still have a lot of content to add to it and links to build, but I do agree this is a good way to test out the potential performance of a specific post. Thanks for sharing.

Nice blog and I agree, I have spent a little to gain alot!

Thanks for sharing this info Gary :)
