ShareaSale Affiliate Program - -Wayfair Merchant

I recently applied to be an affiliate marketer with the ShareaSale network, specifically wanting to market from Wayfair, as they have many of the products that fit my niches. I was automatically declined because I live in a Nexus state. Here is most of the declination letter I received:

"Thank you for your interest in the Wayfair Affiliate Program. Unfortunately your application was declined. Your application could have been declined for many different reasons. The most common reasons we decline affiliates are 1) your site and/ or its content are not relevant/ on-brand with Wayfair and its sister sites, 2) your site is not generating enough traffic, 3) your site promotes coupons, or 4) you aren't located in a Nexus state or are located in the UK.

Our program is focused creating connections with sites that are generating original content that is on-brand with Wayfair and incremental traffic. As such, in January 2015, we made the decision to no longer allow couponing or cashback sites into our program. Lastly Wayfair only partners with sites located in a Nexus state. If you are located in: Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, Indiana, Mississippi, Montana, Alaska, Arkansas, North Dakota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, Arizona, New Hampshire, Vermont, New Mexico, Nevada, South Carolina, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Wyoming, Oregon, Kansas, Connecticut, Louisiana or Tennessee, you are receiving this decline automatically because of the Nexus Internet tax laws passed in your state. If you have any questions regarding Nexus states please visit http://www.cj.com/internet-tax for more information."

I write this blog to share what might happen if you try to apply to an affiliate marketer that supports the Nexus rules. (I just happen to live in one of the listed states.) Not all affiliate marketers inside ShareaSale subscribe to the Nexus program, so you may be able to find one (or more) you can affiliate with to promote their products. If you are specifically looking at Wayfair please check the link provided and see where your state stands on the Nexus laws.

I am now looking at two other merchants inside ShareaSale that might work for my niches and will update if I encounter further blocks by the Nexus laws. It would be great to hear if anyone else has encountered the Nexus law blocks or any other restrictions from ShareaSale or other Affiliate marketers that would help others in their consideration on where to partner.

Wishing you continued success on your journey!

Sorry I just saw this! I actually work for Awin.com, the network that acquired ShareASale.com, and I would be very happy to help you find alternative merchants to Wayfair.com. While Wayfair is sensitive to nexus states, many other merchants are not, so I'm sure we can find some great matches for you!

Nexus laws are an erosion of basic internet rights!
