My First Organic Comment – Why the Little Wins Matter

Morning lovely WA friends,

Just thought I'd bash out a quick post to share something that meant a lot to me today: I received my first organic comment on one of my blog posts – and it came from someone who found my site through a Facebook post and then decided to subscribe to the newsletter too.

And this is on the site with over 120 posts and only 1 indexed through Google!

Take that, you Google algorithm you!!

Why it matters

To those who have thousands of followers, this is a drop in the ocean. But to me, it's everything!

It may sound like a small thing, but after months of building, writing, tweaking and promoting, this is the proof that I've reached one real person in the real world. Someone who wasn't a friend already, or a WA member commenting through the platform, but someone who's responded to my site who chose to connect. It just feels like such a lovely confirmation that I’m on the right path.

This is the kind of thing we all dream about when starting out – not just traffic stats or sales (though we want those too!) but real human engagement. It reminded me that slow growth is still growth, and boy are my seedlings taking their time!! That said, these little moments of connection are what make this journey worthwhile.

If you're still waiting for your first comment, subscriber, or sale – don’t give up. Keep showing up. Keep sharing your voice. The work you do does make a difference, even when it feels like it’s all echoing into the void. Sometimes it just takes a little time for your light to be seen.

Here’s to more of those encouraging moments – and to supporting each other through the journey.

I'm on a HIGH today and I'm not coming down anytime soon!

Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Gail

Thank you, Michael. Your support is much appreciated, even for the little wins! Gail

Hi Gail,
Very encouraging and congrats to you.
You're so right, it is the little wins that develop over time and lead to increased presence and more engagement.

This is a process that requires consistency, patience, and hard graft, and so long as we keep consistent and keep applying what we are learning, the rewards will come.

Very well done to you.
Cherie

Hey Gail,

As a fellow WA'er and Surrey-ite, I'm always going to be watching and supporting! lol

Hoping you're enjoying this glorious weather, and not tied to the PC.

Cheers

AND... I'm heading into the garden now...

Yes, consistency... Huge factor.!

Gail, this post made my coffee taste even better this morning! Seriously—sending a big high five for that first organic comment and subscriber. You’re right: it’s not just a little win, it’s the spark that means your ship is truly sailing (and the “black boat” is officially on the move!).

Sometimes I think this journey is less like a speedy yacht and more like a quirky tugboat—full of small, surprising victories, and powered by good company. I can just picture Sparky doing a victory lap every time a real reader finds your site. (He might need a treat jar next to the “Subscribe” button.)

You’ve totally captured why these moments matter. Here’s to many more “Gail wins” (and organic comments) ahead! If you ever need a Zappy-powered cheer squad or want to swap milestone stories, you know where to find me.

Stay caffeinated and keep sailing,
Sonia (and Zappy, honorary crew member!)

Haha - love this Sonia, thank you. You've made my day too. I totally love the support we get here at WA and honestly think it helps me keep going when things get tough! Looking forward to a coffee with you soon!

Gail, you’ve just made my day all over again! The WA support really does keep us going—especially on those tough days. I’m always up for that virtual coffee (and a Sparky story or two). Here’s to more wins and good company!

Gail, this is powerful.

Sure beats the comment section grind, doesn’t it? This is real someone found you, connected, and subscribed. That’s not just a win, it’s proof that it works.

A strong reminder that slow growth still builds something lasting.
Thanks for sharing this seriously motivating.

Stay curious,
Shawn

Thanks Shawn. Always grateful for your support. I am really pleased with this first step, especially because of all the Google nonsense. Just proves that where there's a will, there's a way!
Or as my dad always said... "Where there's a will, there's always relations!" 😁

Sorry for the late reply Gail, I got called out for an emergency at work and just saw your message, so I wanted to get back to you quickly.

I always enjoy your posts, they really hit home for me, and your journey has helped guide mine.

I know the Google stuff can be frustrating, but this first win shows your persistence is working.

Your dad sounds like a very wise man, that line gave me a good laugh.

Really happy for you, keep it going.
Shawn

No worries my friend. 'Real life' encroaches... I get that! Yep, my dad was a character alright! Mad as a hatter, but a real character! Maybe that's where I get it from.
I think that sharing the ups and downs of our journeys helps everyone and I really appreciate seeing how people get on, warts and all!
Have a great weekend. Gail

So encouraging wise words indeed

1

Hey Gail
Love how you said that, your dad sounds like someone I would've liked, probably had people laughing and shaking their heads at the same time. And you're right, sharing the real stuff makes all the difference. Always appreciate how open and real you are. I’ve been so deep in creating this weekend thanks to all the rain, I’m not even sure where the weekend went, lol. Hope yours has been a good one, and if not, at least I hope the kettle didn’t let you down.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. Honestly, reading Gail’s posts makes it easy to respond, she writes with such honesty and heart, it pulls you in. I just spoke from the same place and I’m glad it resonated.

Stay inspired

I've had an amazing weekend celebrating the Summer Solstice. Quieter day today but I've been decorating my house and everything has been in boxes for months but I've finally got around to putting in the finishing touches and unpacking my book boxes. I have way too many books though but I'm loathed to part with them.

1

Now that sounds like a fun weekend, wish I remembered mine 😂 I’ve been so deep in creating I think I lost track of time. There’s nothing wrong with having too many books, but it’s even nicer when they’re your own great stuff.

Well, I’m off to get back at it, got four blogs to build today and then it’s back to Google to fix errors,🤣 gotta love it.

3

Great I feel so inspired.

1

This great! Thank you very much for sharing your success.

Thanks Leo. I hope it helps encourage a few people. It can be a lonely road otherwise.
