Transferring Your Wordpress Website to Your Own Domain

Do you have a website created with Wordpress such as www.yourblog.wordpress.com?

You may want your domain name (website name) to be www.yourblog.com which is more professional, unique and is easier to remember and type out.

Once you have aquired your unique domain name you will need to transfer your website to your new domain.

In the past this used to be a daunting task for beginners and professionals alike.

Due to the demand of this uneccesarily long winded task a few premium and free Wordpress plugins have been created to ease the process.

I use a plugin called Duplicator which has been a huge time saver for many of the websites I have created and transferred.

But there are a few steps you will need to take to complete the process:

1. Get your domain name (The address where your website lives)
2. Create the web hosting account (The space for your website files at that address)
3. Create a database through your hosting account and write down the details such as database host, name, user and password)
4. Go to Wordpress > Plugins > Add New. Download, install and activate the Duplicator plugin
5. In your plugins list Duplicator > Manage
6. Create a Package then download the package and the installer
7. Upload both to your site root via FTP
8. In your browser type http://www.yourblog.com/installer.php
9. Fill in the database details and click "Test Connection" to verify a database connection
10. If the connection is Valid (in green writing) click install.

If all went well your new site should be activated and ready to go.
