Hi Frenchie, I have installed recurring payment options on several website. I have used Stripe, but Paypal is more common and a little easier to deal with.
You don't need an SSL cert. You can create a subscription button and place the button "code" on any website.
When the visitor (customer, client) clicks the button, they are taken to the payment gateway's secured page (Paypal or Stripe) and secured with their SSL cert. This is all free.
The payment gateway you use (Paypal or Stripe) takes a small percentage per sale for their end of this service (a few percent).
Recommend reviewing Paypal's sub setup here:

Thank you for your help, PJ!
Seems I'll have to go with Paypal for now. Stripe is only in private beta where I am. Trying to get an invite, though, as I'd like to implement it as soon as it becomes public.
Have a nice day,
French
PM me your email address, I'll see if I have the ability to send an invite from my Stripe account.

Expert WA wisdom sought here!
Trying to set up a payment processing page using Memberful, and running into a couple of issues. I have searched the Q/A, but could not find
I don't think you can get SSL at SiteRubix and if you move your site to external hosting then you'd have to pay for hosting and EXTRA for SSL. It doesn't come cheap.
Thak you so much Marion!
I'd love it if it was possible to get ssl over siterubix! Do you have any idea how I can do this?
Thank you again, and have a great week-end!
Cheers,
Frenchie
You could put in a support ticket but I'm pretty sure it's not possible to do it here. Even businesses can be more comfortable using PayPal than giving out credit card details. And they can use their credit cards through PayPal's secure portal.
I use Simple WordPress Membership plugin.
Thank you Marion!
Sensible advice, especially as in the meantime I have found out that Stripe is only private beta in my country. I might explore a couple of local payment gateways as well, if any and if affordable.
Have a great day,
Frenchie
