Great question, and there is a training on how to improve your WA ranking which talked about 3 variables like actively involvement, and others. This is towards becoming an Ambassador helping people with their question and concerns. Some variables raise your ranking more but the absolute is average .

Ranking goes up when you are active here on WA Francis. It's all about giving back to the community. We help each other. The more you take part the higher your ranking.
It looks nice but isn't really important. It's good to spend some time on here but more important to spend time on your website and doing the training.

The more participation in WA community, the faster your rank goes up. But the ranking don't mean anything as you have read.

Maybe just feel good.. I would say it is a gamification thing to attract people to contribute.

blogging, commenting and getting likes is how you move up. Rankings don't mean anything,. A high ranking doesn't mean you str making any money
