Hi, WA Friends

On June 6, 1944, over 156,000 soldiers from countries like America, Britain, and Canada came together to land on the beaches in Normandy, France. Known as D-Day, it remains the largest amphibious assault in history and marked a significant shift in the tide of World War II. It's a day we'll never forget.

As we remember D-Day, Thank You to ALL WA members for your service!

You ALL Rock! 🤘 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 🇬🇧

My dad was actually stationed in France and had the opportunity to see the American cemetery and remnants of the Hitler's Atlantic Wall.

I'm a history buff and I would read about this in school as part of my history class. I know that everyone with family that were either baby boomers or a part of the 'greatest generation' would never forget.

But it seems like nowadays, they're trying to erase or minimize what took place - like it's not being taught as much in school like it used to. Some folks tend to take their freedoms for granted and not realize the sacrifice other people made for them.

Appreciate the post, Frank!
Isaiah 😊

Hi, Isaiah

Fascinating story!

I agree with what you are saying.

We can't treat history like it never happened. We owe it to those who fought to protect our freedom by honoring them.

History also allows us to benefit from our good deeds and learn from our mistakes.

I love The History Channel!

Frank 🎸

I totally agree, Isaiah! These were people of the "Greatest Generation"!

Jeff

Very true, same it Dec. 7th, Pearl Harbor and even 9/11 seem to be farther & farther from the rearview mirror. I personally find it disgusting that these events are no longer properly recognized. I have seen the Pearl Harbor Memorial and the Vietnam Wall in DC along with Arlington Cemetary. Those are sites that will haunt me forever, even though it all was before my time. I didn't know anybody that was lost or even in those wars but that is hardly the point. Today's world, especially the younger generation must be taught and made to understand the sacrifices of those before us. It is the only we can hope that they learn to avoid repeating history.

I totally agree!

Jeff

Hi Frank! Thank you for reminding us all of this important day. The bravery, heroism and sacrifices made that day that should never be forgotten.

Susan 🎸😎

Hi, Susan

All these years later, with our progress as a civilization, it's hard to believe that war still exists as a viable option, especially in a nuclear world.

Still, we need to pay tribute to all who fought, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Frank 😎🎸

I know what you mean, Frank. The stakes are so high. For all we’ve learned, we haven’t, if that makes sense. I appreciate your post as we must always remember what happened and those who gave everything. 🎸😎

It makes total sense, Susan! 👍😎🎸

Thanks for these pieces of history

You're welcome. 😎

It must have been absolutely horrific. I couldn’t imagine in my worst nightmares what it would be like but it had an everlasting effect on my father.I didn’t know what he was like before the war obviously but he lost his brother and served in the J-force in Japan right after the bombs were dropped across Japan.
I have seen numerous photos which captured the day to day life after the bombings of both the Japanese and the soldiers stationed there.
He was certainly affected from the loss of his brother, whom he idolized and also the sights of post way Japan.
My Dad coped in his own way without the help of any “professionals” .
Like so many soldiers throughout history, the fallout across families continues to happen and I pray one day that we humans can resolve our problems without resorting to violence. Let us hope for miracles in our lifetime.
Thanks
Stevoi

Hi, Steve

I feel for your father and all the other brave men and women who served their countries over the years.

It never fails to amaze and horrify me why people can't settle their differences without starting wars. So much unnecessary suffering, death, and destruction, including non-military personnel and especially children!

The various countries have spent trillions of dollars over the years developing weaponry when that money could have been used to give the less fortunate food, housing, and medical care.

Truly mind-boggling stuff!

Frank

I don’t think it is the average person who wants to go to war, I have traveled a bit and everyone I meet don’t have an overwhelming desire to go to war.
It’s the people who never get their hands dirty who want more… more land, more voters, more money.. and it is us who hay to pay for it.
One day we will wake up and send them instead of our family and friends.( If I’m being honest, we will never wake up) The same people, the same families, the same lies… send the sheep and we will fleece them they think…And we are meant to be the “ woke generation “
Lol. I’m too tired even to be cynical..
Thanks

That sums it all up beautifully, Stephen! 😎🎸

It was a brilliant, deceptive, and successful assault on Fortress Euprope--the Atlantic wall! All that Heroism and Sacrifice was responsible for the ultimate demise of Nazi Germany!

Nice Frank!

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff, and Thank YOU for your service! 👍🇺🇸

Frank 🎸

You're very welcome, Frank, and I appreciate the kind words, but these guys, many of which gave the ultimate sacrifice, are the ones that I deeply respect and revere!

Jeff🎸

Me, too, Jeff! 😎🎸

I knew you would, Frank!

Jeff😎🎸

Honor and respect are things to be cherished, Jeff! 😎🎸

They are, indeed, Frank! 😎🤘🎸
