Day 2 and my head hurts--It's a good sign

Hi Everyone,
First off -- Wow. Tons of info here, but I have to say that everything seems quite organized and easy to navigate through.
It's day 2 (almost through my third day) and have been reading like a maniac. I have not tried to search for a particular niche and start a web page based on that niche because I do want to work a little backwards with a couple of things that I am quite passionate about.
First, I draw a lot. I started drawing a few years back and I am self taught using some good drawing books that I found and worked through. Eventually, I found Picassa and started using it to scan my art and place it on the web. While doing this, I noticed that there was a button on Picassa that was simply a big letter B. I didn't know what it was so I pressed it and Blogger loaded up and posted my first picture as a blog post. I was hooked to blogging after that. Eventually I decided that I wanted to build a real web site to place my art.
Secondly, I have been in the Hospitality Industry for my entire working career. Starting in the front lines as a waiter/bartender and working my way into management of nightclubs and lounges to eventually running hotels. The industry can be a great place to work, but it can also be tricky to get into if you have little or no experience, especially if you are just entering the workforce. There is a myriad of ways to gain a formal Hospitality Degree, which can focus from everything to management, tourism, marketing, or Admin/Accounting streams, but there is very little "Formal" training for front line workers.
It is these two passions which brought me to WA.

I am working trough a training article by Steve from IveTriedThat, and in that article he places a task, namely to set goals for yourself and place them in a blog post here.

Short Term Goals

  • Revamp my art site focussing more on art resources and learning
  • Research Hospitality training focussing on front line careers
  • Develop outlines for front line positions
  • Work through tutorials on WA -- Daily
  • Form database of all government requirements and mandatory licensing for front line workers -- examples ASIP. Serving it Right, Food Safe etc..
  • Form database of "Free" web based art tutorials
Long Term Goals
  • Create resources pages for Art Site
  • Outline Hospitality website format
  • Turn outlines for front line positions into training articles
  • Gradually format both websites into "Authority Sites"
  • Research possible affiliate sites that are compatible with both concepts -- Example Amizon for Art Texts that I have used myself
  • Learn Squidoo to make Lenses to write articles for both sites
  • Go live and market the websites
Well, I think that's enough for the moment, but I would ask anyone here to do a small favour for me and stop into my art site. It is just a free Webs site, but I wouldn't mind some feedback about how I could revamp it into an Authority site. I really do love to draw, and when I started, I thought I wouldn't be able to draw anything. But as time went on, my drawing improved, and with that improvement came a really good feeling. I would love nothing better then help people get that same feeling I did.

Frank, I would change the widgets from the left side and place them on the right. Make your text appear on the left. Most people like to read from left to right, so make your text to be the place that the visitor will see first.

Add a little more content to your home page and direct the visitor to check out the page where you want them to buy or provide additional information on the subject mentioned on the home page.

Making these changes should help you do well with your new site.

Your Head Hurts! You shall achieve success Mr Potter! :)

Hi Frank, your art is really good, you've got a very clear plan laid out and if you stick to it you will succeed.

As far as developing the site here are my thoughts.

An art site should be beautiful. Anyone who is interested in drawing is going to be a very visual person, so make the site as appealing as you can.

A nice way to do that would be to have your best pieces showcased in an image slider on your home page.

If you are active in any art communities like deviantart for example, get your network to share your work as much as possible on various social media platforms.

I think that being active on pinterest would work well for you too.

Create lots of video tutorials, host them on youtube and embed them on your site.

When you do your keyword research, follow the guide and look for the long tails. Think back to when you were learning to draw, what questions did you have, what help were you looking for, what did you get stuck on, how did you figure out which pencils worked best for each situation? Plug those questions into the keyword tool and see what comes up.

I hope that was some help :)
