Advice Needed Off The Most Experienced Members Of WA
Hi Everyone
I need advice off the more experienced members of Wealthy Affiliates on the best ways to build worth while back links to my website. I have recently been concentrating on building links from social network sites using various methods.
But apart from that I am at a loss on the right type of links to try and build. I am well aware the best links are natural ones that happen from good content and sharing that content.
The problem with that is I am very pro active and I hate to wait for things to happen. So if anyone with experience in this field that has had results with their efforts please let me know what they are.
Thanks Alan

I wrote a couple posts and linked to my.copyblogger.com. At the same time I registered with them on the FREE basis. You get access to 10 great e-books about internet marketing, article writing and so on. These you can give away for free if you wish.
The article I wrote is on Page 1 on all 3 major search engines. About 4 weeks later I checked the incoming links in webmaster tool.
There are 3 links from this site incoming. It takes a while, but linking TO first will get you QUALITY BACK LINKS.Then I have 3 others I linked from some posts. I sent them an email, informing them that I linked to this and that article because I think it's important info for the visitors to my site.....and asked for their agreement to link to them.
All three thanked me and now they are linking to some of my posts
Slow, but steady.
Yes now mackiejw is on the right rough. Getting a guest post from an authority site is the way to go
Fortuna if you look for authority sites and look for a section on their site that says guest posts, mostly they will have a section that tells you what content they are looking for. You can write a good article for them and submit it. If they accept it, they will link to your site.
If you can get a good link from a good site like mackiejw via guest posting your laughing.
Make that your first challenge
I can send you a spread sheet of some fantastic exampples of authority sites you should be doing guest posts on,
How can I send it to you?
Could I get a copy also? PM or email john@factsaboutinternetmarketing.com
I would really appreciate it
John
I'm not an experienced WA member but I do have a small bit of knowledge about backlinking
I am not a backlinking expert but can help with do's and don'ts
many people will tell you not to do backlinks at all but you can have a backlink strategy as long as you know what Google is looking for and how to impliment them properly.
I was going to do a series of posts about this - so far i have only managed to get the one on but I can get information to you quicker
see what you think of this first and tell me your thoughts / questions and I hope i can help

( this link is not for promotion it is to help with this question only )
so regardless of what people say backlinks help you to rank and better your authority and you must build them organically and with whitehat methods only
Maybe if you contact owners of sites in the same niche you can exchange links, I have done it the past with great success.
Sorry I cannot help you here. I've tried various ways to improve my site using links, and so far nothing has really worked for me.
I will be interested though if you find anything out here.
Good luck! Of course I'm a long way from the most experienced! :)

Trading links is of no benefit anymore it can even harm your seo and you should be careful when trying this unless you know what your doing
Link trading means, you put someone's website address on your website and they put your website address on their website.
When you have more inbound link, Google will give you a higher ranking. That's the idea.
The thing about linkbuilding now in 2014 is you have to be very careful with it and sometimes ( most of the time ) if you trade a link intending it to be a link for linkbuilding purposes Google will not hold any weight to it
So for example if you contact someone and ask to link trade, if they agree my guess is their site doesn't have a lot of authority anyway and so no point, the link won't do much for you. Google will take into account the 2 way link also and may discount it for that reason
If the site has good authority and high rankin and you contact them asking them to link trade, possiblty is they will refuse
The idea of linkbuilding is to build relationships not links. So when you contact someone it is a no no to mention links straight off the bat.
You should mention their content, what you think of it, if it relates to you in any way and how you think something may benefit. Perhaps you may mention a link of yours that may benefit but first build bridges.
Once you build bridges you will find more opportunities to build links with that website or they may even include your links without you even asking if your content is good enough and if they find it interesting and it is relevant to their content.
So my point is, when linkbuilding, do not think about linkbuilding. Make good content and go in search of building relationships ( not links ) and this is now the way link building is done by the experts
It's not easy, I am not an expert but I am coming aroun d to this way of thinking and learning these methods as I go
It is interesting that you said, "when linkbuilding, do not think about linkbuilding."
It is how they talk in Buddhism, very mysterious and hard to understand.
I would say: If you want to do it, do it. If you are scare, don't do it.
True if your scared don't do it, if you do it wrong it can harm your seo.
I don't know about budhism so can't comment but I'm talkingabout linkbuilding and how the experts teach it should be done
Because the old days of linkbuilding is long gone. Gone are the days of link sharing, link stuffing, link directories for the sake of linkbuilding, article sites for the sake of linkbuilding, they are all dead and so seo must not be on the mind when linkbuilding as strange as it sounds.
If you can adjust this mindset of linkbuilding you can become a good linkbuilder. Because that way everything will be natural, you will just be a messenger not a link builder.

My personal opinion built on what I have seen over the past year is that it is almost a waste of time. Google have stated that it is not a very important factor in ranking your site these days which to me says that it is not something worth wasting a lot of your time on.
The problem I find is that while directory and article type sites are OK to get your article posted on, they don't hold a lot of relevance with Google. What Google are looking for are like-minded sites, so if your site is about photography and cameras, you need a backlink from a site selling cameras or another photography site. If you don't get one from a respected site, Google probably won't see your banklink as having any relevance so they won't rank your site for it.
But these type of links are extremely difficult to get. Canon cameras, for example, won't be interested in you posting a link to your own site, and almost every major site prevents you from posting your links in the comments section because they do not want their sites associated with what, in most cases, would probably be perceived by Google's bots as small, low quality blog type sites.
With that in mind it seems to me that you can spend a lot of time trying to get backlinks which may in the end be worthless at best, and at worst might even damage your rankings. For example an article posted on a site with lots of low quality blogs or posts isn't likely to do you any good, and unless you know what the result is likely to be you might just be better of not doing it at all.
It is difficult to impossible to get any relevant expert advice because what worked a few years ago won't work today.
I have decided not to even bother and to concentrate on simply adding more and more quality content to my site. I have always considered that any content is better posted on your own site than somebody else's anyway.
After reading the comments on here and through what I have seen you may be right.
