Assess, Adapt and Overcome

Aside from being a very patient and extremely tired foaling wife and mom I also raise rare breeds of chickens. I sell eggs, $5.00 a dozen, for free range organic multi-colored eggs. Every color, blue, green, pink, dark chocolate brown, large and small but my chickens can sell for upwards of $300 apiece, if not more and I breed them year round (when the hens cooperate).

This brings me to my problem and my solution... I was told by the "powers that be" here at the ranch that I could not have any more "pets" unless they were approved first. No one here is approving more live chickens... at this time. No one is realizing this is also a business I run so I had to get creative. Hmmmm... no more LIVE chickens. I remembered my dad's words, Assess, Adapt and Overcome. He was so great about always thinking outside the box and finding a way around things... a solution.

Sooo.. with my craftiness and sense of "I will not be shut down" I out smarted those "Powers that be" and I have more chickens now than ever. Metal chickens!!

I can use scrap from the ranch, recycled of course, and make and sell my chickens. This got me thinking... we are so often faced with adversity in our strive for success and when we hit a "brick wall" what do we do? Do we pout, do we brood or do we assess, adapt and overcome? If your site isn't making you the revenue you want, if your business isn't as successful as you would like it to be what is the next step? Adapt and Overcome! Find a way.. it's there waiting for you and believe it or not.. that success wants you to find it!!

Make changes, be passionate, be aggressive and always BE POSITIVE that you can succeed!! If it's not working right now, Assess, Adapt and Overcome but always know you can persevere! Believe in yourself!! Oh and if you want some eggs, a weird looking or metal chicken... let me know :) Have a creative, successful and blessed day!!

P.S. When our biggest client ordered and paid $2500 for one of my chickens, the "powers that be" decided to re-asses their "no more chickens" stance. Success!!

You are one very inspiring lady. I LOVE those chickens :)

That,s very creative Susan.I used to work in a hardware store and we brought metal chickens in to sell at one time, they were quite popular and different colours, depending on the size they started about 15 pounds up to about 35 pounds.

My small ones are about 15-20 lbs and the large one are in excess of 300 lbs and take me about a week to weld and make. My local feed store has picked them up and sells them and they are popular but like every trend they will fade. As for now though, they keep me quite busy and of course I still have my live chickens to tend to... :)

Well you certainly will be busy girl.

LOL! What a great post! The chickens are great also! :)

LOL. I love this story AND the chickens are adorable!!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Great story. Thing is, if you are living out on a ranch, I don't understand how a Home Owners Association could dictate if you could have chickens or not. Maybe the "Powers to Be". Is your husband. Ha..Ha. Great story with a good moral. Keep up the great work

Exactly!!! The Cowboy is the HOA, Den keeper, Slave driver etc... step out of line here and you will be mucking stalls all day LOL!!!

I think the metal chickens are so cute and creative indeed. Great message.

Thank you so much! I really enjoy them and my customers do too... I have even made some custom ones with special metals by request. My little "rebellion" project turned out to be a great side line business and one I love.

Love the chickens and adaptability is the name of the game, great post Susan! :)

Very cool and great story

Such a perfect article... and what beautiful art (and "welding") great work young lady. Really drives the point across well. Great philosophy and quite true to boot!!

Those look awesome. Super creative :)

Thanks, it's been a fun journey... I actually had to learn how to weld which is really cool!
