Homemade doughnuts

Our family runs a small store in a remote corner of Canada. It features a restaurant, a bakery and basic grocery and hardware items...

One item is very popular on Wednesdays and Saturdays-- our homemade doughnuts. People drive for miles to pick up a dozen or call in early to reserve. Or are extremely disappointed when they arrive and the doughnut case is empty. They crane their necks to peer into the bakery room, searching for more trays of doughnuts...

The crucial thing about making doughnuts (and writing) is to be sure you have all the ingredients in the dough. I mix the dough and double-check to make sure I have everthing measured in. And although I have been doing this for years, I still make bad dough sometimes... I forgot the sugar recently and the doughnuts just would not fry up nice and golden. One time I even forgot the yeast...nothing happened to the dough, It just sat there -very unappealing.

But usually the doughnuts are there- beautiful, golden, and covered with a thin tempting sweet glaze. Irresistable!

So just remember in your writing to watch for all components that create a superior article. Make a cheat sheet for yourself to make sure that you have covered all your ingredients, just as have a recipe to double check myself.

More on this next time. Have a awesomely productive week!

Great analogy, it can be easy to forget the right ingredients sometimes if working only from memory, so a cheat sheet is a good idea!
