I have Amazon for my products, and use the other affiliate banners for ads currently.

As long as you don't 'overload' you can have as many different affiliate memberships as you choose! Just be sure to research before you commit yourself.....

I prefer Amazon, but the setup is different.

With amazon, all products are under the Amazon program. With CJ, there are several affiliate programs and you have to apply to each one separately.

What is it you wish to promote.I think your message is a little bit muddled.Have you signed up to commission junction,if so take a look at the niche you are promoting and I am sure you will find ample products.
What were you saying about Amazon?Do you mean you wish to try other affiliate programmes before Amazon.You may need to type your message in simpler form.

I have both Amazon and Commission Junction. Once you are accepted at Amazon, you can access all products. In CJ, you have to apply for individual programs. ShareASale is like that, too, as well as Rakuten Linkshare. Amazon is easier, in my opinion, but other programs pay more.
