The Silver Lining in Amazon's Big Black Cloud

Well, I just got the horrible, dreaded e-mail from Amazon that I did not make my 3 sales with them so I could go shove off... Ummmm, OK, or reaply. So, of COURSE I reapplied.

Now, as you all know, now I have to go back and change EVERY freaking Amazon link in my posts. Let me tell you right now that ALL of my posts have multiple links to Amazon so this is a real time-sucker.

HOWEVER, I did notice on thing. Gads have I ever learned a LOT about writing and SEO over the past few months. Now that I have to go back in to my earlier blog posts I am seeing all KINDS of SEO-type mistakes and fixing them and just generally improving the articles.

So although this is a really nasty time for me, its so nice to be getting those green buttons on Yoast saying my SEO is now good on these articles instead of just OK.

For me its just a reminder to KEEP ON GOING. Even if you think that nothing is working or going forward, it is - even if its just the quality of your writing. No wonder it takes up to 100 blogs posts to start making money. Sure, its to create an authority site but also because it probably takes us this long to become decent SEO writers!

Grrrrrrrr... Still frustrated with Amazon, tho!

Hi Darlene,

It always amuses me that someone that hasn't got a scooby just looks at a list and says your out! without knowing who you are, a very skilled thoughtful special lady who helps people out at the drop of a hat. Even if he did he wouldn't comprehend it.

Like you say you intended to do it anyway and glad that you are at a stage to review all that content at last! all good!

Trust you are keeping well otherwise keep on creating!

I for one who does understand what you do, appreciates it very much and admires your creativity immensely. ;

Rami.

Awwwwww! >blushing< Thank you!

You are ever so welcome and deserving, take care Darlene!

So Darlene, why put all Amazon links back into your site?
Why not find other merchants who sell the same thing? Merchants who won't kick you out like Amazon did. Merchants who will have longer cookies and higher commission rates.

Amazon is a horrible merchant to work with. They treat their publisher's like dirt. Please consider working with other companies who will treasure you.

Mainly because I am ill and I haven’t the track record to attract those sites in my peculiar niche

If you have the content that fits, that's usually enough. I'd be glad to help you with any merchants on Awin or ShareASale, since I work with both those networks.

Thank you VERY much and I just might take you up on that!

My pleasure! I love doing that.

It took me 3 years before I hit that 3 sales required by Amazon.

For several times I failed, it is really hard to comprehend the feelings of frustration. Sometimes, it is quite easier to stop and never go back again.

I am not saying that I achieve access but I think persistence is a quality that most successful people have the same thing in common.

Excellent perspective! If you quit, you will definitely get nothing.

Yes, it is really frustrating, but when we start in the world of affiliation, it may be better not to register immediately with Amazon. Amazon wants to see a quick result and when we start it can be complicated. Learn how to develop your blog with other affiliate companies and then when you're more comfortable with it, you can re-register on Amazon and start affiliate again. Amazon is an almost essential business because there are so many products.

Well, I tried with other affiliate companies and, because I was new, they all turned me down. I went with Amazon because they don't turn people down. I really had no choice at the time. Choices are now expanding for me, however.

I also received an email from Amazon not too long ago. I think I still have one month to meet the target. Otherwise, they'll suspend my account. Not that I'm too worried, though. I don't have that many Amazon links since I mostly promote other programs like Expedia, Booking and the like.

However, I've been wondering what's going to happen to those links. They're mostly image links. I guess I'll have to remove them ugh.

Anyway, it's just one of the many obstacles we'll face on our way. Hang in there! :)

It’s really not a super biggie. You just reapply and you are back in the same day. Unfortunately, your affiliate name gets changed so all of your links need to be redone to point to the new account. It’s not the end of the world - just time consuming and frustrating!

I can tell. They should be more flexible, but it is what it is.

Thank you for the info, as I am just starting out I will (for now) stay clear of Amazon.

Maybe a good idea! LOL
