One week before this Christmas I get laid off from a job where I was literally doing two people's work. I have been pondering over lessons learn from this experience. The one that tops everything else is that if I am going to work 16 hours a day for anyone it should be myself. I needed to start bringing in a salary as soon as possible. As I started looking at the job market I realized my technical skills needed updating, to keep pace with rapid change in IT industry. I started using all available resource online including vast array of MOOCs available from some of the top universities. As I was worked to update skills so that I could find another job in the corporate world, the lessons learned loomed large. I started thinking may be this is what my working life will be; update skills get a well paying job, get laid off in next economic downturn cycle; start over again. Not a pretty scenario you will agree but this is the reality of the job market these days.

I am blessed to have a caring network of close friends. One of them happens to be a social media guru. When I explained my situation to him he was kind of visit me over a weekend and show me some of the ropes of online marketing, He suggested I look into eCommerce. His suggestion was answer to my lessons learned. I setup myself on Amazon and made my first sell within 8 days. As I did that the enormity of the online space become evident to me like it never did before.

During my research I came across a possibility that was sounded to good to be true, turns out it was. When I looked into the legit status of the possibility I came across Wealthy Affiliate. Ever since I started looking into the program I have gradually become more and more convinced that this program works. It offers plenty of training and guidance, powerful tools, supporting community and all in one setup. Only ingredient missing is expenditure of time and effort by individuals.

Don't get me wrong; I will still look for the positions as I do realize that it will could take me three to five years to reach the point where I can replace my current salary with eCommerce income. My short term plan is to use every available minute of my time to learn all that needs to be learned to get going; with a goal to make enough money to pay for my first months premium fee. In the meanwhile I hope to start at my new job so I will have to take my foot of the throttle. After this period I still plan on spending 2 hours on most days and 16 hours on weekends on developing my business. I have set my sight on the eventual goal with some interim milestones to keep my going. I am in it for the long haul; next check point is July 1st.

I humbly ask for support and guidance from those who have done this already.
