Hard work and result
How Good are the Lessons here at WA?
In my profile I wrote that I have been setting up websites for some time but never took the time to fully understand to get traffic to my sites. But having a few sites means a lot of work, a lot of research, a lot of reading, writing content, making the content better, updating content, go over written content to make it better, that is what WA taught me in the few months I am here.
Google Analytics & Search Console
I was using Google Analytics but never used it to analyse the traffic, never set-up goals, understanding the flow of visitors at my sites.
Understanding your traffic is key;
- check the keywords users use to come to the site
- check the landing pages
- check the exit pages
- check the time visitors spend on your site
- check how many pages they visit
- are they new or returning visitors?
- check the ranking of pages
- understand why pages are ranked low
- understand how to update your pages to increase the ranking
Just a few things to think about but below you see a graphic from Google Analytics on a site that I have running and traffic is increasing.
I have filters installed to remove the spam traffic and my own traffic (filter on fixed IP address).
But traffic is not all, you can have traffic just for the sake of traffic but traffic alone does not monetise anything. The challenge will be to increase the traffic and get engagement with the visitors to have them coming back and learn how to monetise the traffic and I have some idea.
Another point of interest is to reduce the bounce rate. Understand why a visitor is leaving after 3 seconds and why are some visitors reading more than 10 pages on my site.
But also, if a visitor is leaving after 3 seconds, how can I make him/her happy that he/she will come back or signs up for a newsletter for future engagement.
Having one site is not easy to maintain, let alone multiple sites, nevertheless, seeing traffic increasing is great to see, gives confidence to make the site better, write more and better content.
Over 90% of the pages have 1500 words, where some have between 2500 and 3000 words, but most important is quality. Where initially this site had poor quality content, but changing it to quality makes Google and me happy which is clearly shown.
Happy writing quality content.

Hello and thanks for a helpful post. This is still very new to me, and I haven't thought of some of these things.
I did learn a lot going through the Live Video Classes, these go back to October 2013 and since then every week a video is uploaded. Very interesting and did help me a lot.
But write quality content, that is the main thing. I had a lot of content but basically saying nothing, think about what you write and make it good. And go back to the same content after a few weeks, and update, I use now also Grammarly (I use still the free version) to remove simple errors, at the end English is not my native language, but this tool helped me to make the text better, less or fewer errors and at the same time I had to think better how to write. Altogether I make long days, easily from 10:00am to 02:00, with some breaks but all the effort pays off.
Absolutely, moved up from 300 visitors per month to 500 visitors in 3 months time. Next goal is 750 visitors over 30 days which I hope to achieve by end of September.
