Create Opportunities apply the 80 20 Rule to Learning
Generally speaking the 80 20 rule or as it is commonly known the Pareto principle is an observation that across any population resources and results are not distributed evenly. So 80 % of the outcomes are derived from 20 % the inputs.
It seems to be used as a mainstay in the sales and marketing fields where it is widely used and adhered to, 80 % of the revenue will be generated by 20 % of the customers, so logic follows to concentrate one's efforts on that 20 % to achieve the most favorable outcomes.
It is not something that is set in concrete and the ratios can change as can the outcomes, so, at the end of the day, one of the key things to remember and incorporate into our endeavors is flexibility. It definitely helps us to stay on track. Always look for opportunities to create better outcomes.
Look for that one thing that will create the maximum outcome, out of ten ideas two may be the best option and from here one may stand head and shoulders above the rest. Run with that don’t hesitate just go for it. There is plenty of time to tweak it on the road so to speak.
One of the things that seem to be working and be paying dividends, especially when learning new things is to look at what will create the biggest outcome concentrate on that 20 % learn that and apply it. Learn the proficiency as you go along works a treat don’t worry that you do not understand the full package.
Just wing it, to put it another way, old school would describe it as" on the job training ".
In this online world, everyone has a nemesis that one thing that we continually struggle with the one monster that we have created. In the world of what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG) and drag and drop builders life is so easy, to take things to another level and demystify it all concentrating on the 20 % and learning about that we can create some very good outcomes or get you on the journey to becoming proficient. Look at that difficult challenge focus on the things that will bring the quickest return and work on them.
Simple really.
The same can apply to creating content we can do the things that will create the best outcome and at the end of the day save time and create good content.
Researching we can go into depth and read a few well-tailored articles and look at various resources and agonize over that article that we want to create or we can simply allocate some time to researching writing and proofing before we publish.
So instead of reading three articles in depth try scan reading ten in the same amount of time when it comes to writing allocate a set amount of time and just go for it same with the proofing. So if it takes a good four hours for your process try doing it in three.
You are just cutting down and becoming more focused, not suited to everyone just a different way to look at things.
Does quality suffer, being honest I think it does but if you stick at it like all things it will level itself out, as it becomes part of your repertoire?
An idea, what do you folks think about that one, chuck it in the waste bin or you may think there is some merit it?

Excellent post Alexander. I to am a believer in the 80/20 rule. I hadn't heard the term O.J.T. in a long while. We sure did a lot of it in the military. Have a great weekend.

It is a classic I think that many are held back because they do not jump in and take some chances and risks along the way. Using the 80/20 rule it is so much easier to get to the heart of the subject and look out the things that will deliver the quickest results. learning and getting proficient is what it is all about.

Like many, I've heard of the 80/20 Rule, but I really haven't given though to how it applies to my business.
As with anything, it's always good to set aside time for self-examination or to "take stock" of what we're doing. I also understand that flexibility is crucial.

I find it particularly useful, most things online are not too hard once we understand how they work and how we can leverage our position. one of the shortcut methods is to look at the basics learn them and get into it much of the other things will fall into place as our proficiency accumulates
I think there is that saying fake it until you make it. not really the case here but the reality is that if we just start doing things then it will happen and we can take some solace in the fact that no matter we are not going to break the internet with our endeavors may just make the world a better place.

Great explanation of 80/20 rule and how we can. Apply it to what we do. On a platform like WA it's easy to spend time on things that don't generate the highest result. Thanks for the perspective. Debbie
